Skyler Marshal vs. Sky(e) Michelle
My father passed away last year. We’re having a baby this July/August (due July 29) and would love to name our son/daughter after him. Unfortunately, his name was Norman Clyde, and we don’t like either of the names. My father was a sky marshal for the US for many years, so ... I know it’s a stretch, but we were thinking of maybe Skyler Marshal for a boy and Sky(e) Michelle for a girl. What do you think? Is it too out-there or does it work? -Amanda

Sorry to hear about your loss. I think Skye or Skyler is cute on a girl. But I honestly don’t like Skyler on a boy. I think it’s more of a feminine name, at least to me. Good luck!

I think they make great names. I know of a boy named skyler he’s 16 now and the name fits him perfectly.

That’s a really creative way of honoring your father. And I think it works!

I don’t see how it is "unclassy." I asked a simple question on the names. I didn’t say we were definitely going with them; we’re just trying to find another way of honoring him with our child’s name. If you have a better idea, feel free to suggest it!

Using initials is a good idea and not something we’d thought of yet. Thank you.

Your child will love the story behind their name, so go for it. Though I do like Skyla Michelle better.

Skylar/Skyler has always sounded boyish to me, so I don’t see any problem for using it on a boy.
