Amelia vs. nickname vs. Amy

Is Amy really a nickname for Amelia? My sisters name is Amy and I really want to incorporate her name in my daughters name somehow. Since she is around a lot, I don’t want them to have the same name though. My Mom offered up Amelia since Amy is a nickname for it but I had never heard that before. Have you? Or do you have any other suggestions of names that incorporate Amy?

Amy is quite a common nn for Amelia. It’s very pretty.

There’s also:
Bellamy
Amelie
Amethyst

Amy is a separate name in it’s own right, but it could certainly serve as a nickname for Amelia.

I think Amy COULD be a nickname for Amelia, but it isn’t usually one, but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t be. I know an Amelia who’s nickname is Lia.

Amity would also work and would actually be closer in meaning to Amy.

Most Amelia’s I’ve met are Amys - one is a Mia. It’s a very common nn for Amelia in the UK.

Poster 8 - really? That’s aweful!

Amy is certainly a nn for Amelia, and if you love Amelia, then go for it. There are other options which you’ve been given. I think you should keep the spelling Amy.

I guess I wasn’t clear, we would be calling her Amelia. I just like that it in a way, incorporates my sisters name. I had never heard it before so I wanted to see if others had. :) Thanks for the help!
