Hypatia vs. Famke

I really love the name Hypatia (Ee-pah-shah) for our daughter. I think it would be lucky to name her after such a role model. Its not my husband’s favorite of our list but he loves it too, his favorite is Famke. We are stuck on pronounciation, the correct way is Fahm-key but most of the people around us see it and say it Fahm-kuh depite correction and its growing on us, can using the pronounciation Fahm-kuh make us look ridiculous since it technically is not the correct way to pronounce it? We would like opinions on each, if you dont like it thats fine but please say why, since its really between these two. Suggestions welcome. Thanks

They are both unique. The amount of work you will have to do to correct pronunciation is enormous. I would consider similar names with easier pronunciatione like Freya or Hestia

We dont mind correcting others, we both have fairly common names and even we\’ve had to correct people all our lives, it happens regardless I think. We are open to suggestions but Freya and Hestia arent really my style, I dont like the sounds Fray or Hest. And second poster please dont be rude, thats not helpful to us. Tell us why you dont like it, suggest something, or pick the one you like more. Thank you

Its something to think about, thank you! You dont think the two ee’s make it look too trendy do you? And I take it, your pronouncing it Fahm-key? Im still so torn between the two!

Yes, Fahm- key. Maybe Famkie, or Famki.

I asked and my husband doesnt want to change the spelling, he likes the traditional Famke. We were really looking for opinions on which name and possibly which pronounciation to help choose just one name, didnt really get that feedback. Maybe we will try again later, im a bit discouraged at the moment. But thank you so much for your time and thoughts, its deeply appreciated.

You could name her Famke pronounced Fam-key, but call her Fam-kuh as a nickname :)
