Can vs. Will vs. Stand Alone?

I love the name Will/Willie. However can it stand on its own? I dislike the name William. I am not a fan of Wilbur. I kinda like Wilson but doubt I will use it. Other name suggestions?

Yes! I think it can! Why use a long name when you know you are just going to shorten it?

Will Kingston
Will Sawyer
Will Knightley
Will Matthew
Will Michael
Will Jackson
Will Graham
Will Lucas
Will Jensen
Will Gabriel
Will Gunner
Will Alexander
Will Crosby

I thinking absolutely can stand alone. Not everyone called John is actually named Jonathan.

Sorry... I think it absolutely can stand alone... (darned autocorrect.)

Yes, but John is a stand alone name and has been for centuries. What you’re going to call the baby isn’t the only consideration--someday he may want to sound more professional on job applications, etc

Will is a very professional sounding name. I really don’t get all this "professional" name stuff. It’s a name! I personally think it’s fine! :) Will Smith, Will Ferrell, Will Arnett...I know they are actors, but still it works for them!

Will sounds just fine for a professional.

I don’t think it stands alone well. My son has a classmate named Will and people have called him William. Sometimes he corrects them and sometimes he doesn’t. I think it’s just too much trouble to correct them all the time.

I think Will can stand alone. Liam is also a nn for William and people use it as a stand-alone name all the time. GL

It certainly can! I also love nickname-type names. For instance, my husband and I both love Jenny but not Jennifer, so our daughter is Jenny Carolina. Will is a nice name! Go ahead.

Thanks everyone! I will keep searching for longer names for Will!

Will can DEFINITELY stand on it’s own and people use the name on it’s own all the time. I would seriously ignore anyone who says otherwise, as it’s a common thing to use Will on it’s own so I’m not sure what universe they’re living in.

William is a great name imo, but I really do love Will on its own. I really dislike all other names such as Wilbur and Wilson, they sound like old men to me.
