Its A Problem vs. Its Fine

So I’m pregnant with my second baby and its our first boy. My husband wants to name him Michael Christopher but I have dated three different guys named Michael in the past (one of which was a very serious relationship) but should I not really care seeing as its a common name? I have brought this up to my husband but he doesn’t find an issue with it because we would technically be naming our baby after his brother. I still think its a problem but ah what do you think? Our little princess is Ashley Elaine (who is 3 and goes by both of her names). Thank you for helping? -Faith Davidson.

I would have no problem with it, especially since you guys know you’re naming the baby after his brother.

However, if it really bothers you, well, then it’s a good enough reason to veto the name.

I’m just saying it wouldn’t bother me.

I wouldn’t want to use it. It is a very common name, but I’d still find it weird to give my son the name of a serious ex. Why not just use it as a middle name?

If it doesn’t brother him and you like the name and it doesn’t bother you then go with it.

Also what about Micah instead of Michael?

Or should I suggest Christopher Michael to him?

Christopher Michael would be good too.

It’s only a problem if every time you look at your son you’re going to think of your ex’s, or if you might bump into them it would be awkward to say ’this is my son, Michael’

If your husband is fine with it then I wouldn’t worry about it. There will always be names that remind you of someone you don’t like.

Thank you for posting this question as we are going through the same thing right now! Except its his ex not mine. Sometimes I think who cares and other times I think, no, it seems weird. In your case, I feel like you should suggest switching the order. They’re both nice names. Also, if you don’t switch the order, it’s nice that you are naming him after your brother in law And I think that kind of changes it. Like, makes it better! Best of luck to you!

I wouldn’t use the name Michael because it is SO VERY COMMON. You yourself have dated 3 Michaels.... clearly it is way overused. I have never liked it. I agree with a poster above who suggested using Micah instead.
