are addison and ryan vs. really unisex names?
After 2 years of trying, I am finally pregnant. My other children are named Addison Marie (10), and Ryan Jonathan (7). I really like the name Lauren Michelle but people are saying it doesn’t go with the unisex theme. When I named Addison, I thought it was a really girly name but now boys are starting to have that name and the same thing with Ryan. I think it’s annoying how every name is turning unisex. Do you think if have to stick with the "unisex" theme or is Lauren Michelle okay? Thanks. Sandy, Ty, Addy, and Ryan.
The Top Baby Name is...
I think you should stick with Lauren. I love that name!
Addison is EXTREMELY common right now for girls and almost completely unheard of for boys.
Ryan is a MALE name... still much more common for boys even if ridiculous parents use it sometimes for girls.
Lauren and Addison are a beautiful pair.
Actually Addison was a boy’s name before it was ever a girl’s name, but obviously you weren’t going for a unisex theme so the theme does not exist in your children’s names. I prefer Laurel or Laurelle over Lauren, but that’s pretty too. Just go ahead and use it!
Not really, traditionally they are both boys names (Addison means son of Adam and Ryan means little king) and Ryan still is. Stick with Lauren.
Addison - in the past it was a boys name now it’s almost exclusively given to girls
Ryan - once only a boys name now it’s increasingly chosen for girls.
Lauren is fine. Always choose a name you love because you’ll be saying it a lot.
In case anyone is curious, Ryan was used in 2012 for 460 girls and 10,900 boys. I’m pretty sure that’s a MALE name.
Addison was used for 8,000 girls and 170 boys. Regardless of its masculine sound and origin, right now that’s a FEMALE name.
To me Ryan will always be a boys name. I don’t really care for Addison but on this site its mostly used on girls. Lauren Michelle is lovely stick with that.
Both boys’ names or surnames. Awful for girls.
You know Lauren is unisex too, right?
No they are boys names.
