a couple vs. of questions

I am pregnant with my first, and I have a couple of questions. First, the baby’s father and I are not together anymore. We ended things amicably, and he wants to be in the baby’s life. The question of the baby’s last name has come up a few times, and we aren’t sure what to do. Should the baby have his last name or mine? Second, we are kind of at a loss for names. We have absolutely no idea. Could you please list your five (5) favorite names for each gender? Thanks!

I think if you’re not married the baby should have your last name. Especially if he lives with you. But since the father’s in his life, it wouldn’t be that weird to have his last name either, if you decided to do that.

My favourite names:
Anna
Louisa
Kara
Leah
Helena

Christian
Mark
Andrew
Aaron
Thomas

As for last name its something you both have to agree on and be happy with. Simplest would probably be a hyphenated last name.

I think that the baby should have your last name even if the child’s father will be in the baby’s life still if the baby has your last name you have more power shall we say and 2. if your boyfriend truly loves you he will marry you and then when you guys become a family the bay’s last name can be changed to his or hyphened and have both of your last names.

If the baby will mainly be living with you, it should get your last name. If the father will have primary custody, it should get his last name. Imo.

Give the child your last name. Even if the child’s father is in his life (right now), if he’s not the primary caregiver and isn’t married to you, then it shouldn’t be his name. Hyphenated last names looks a bit ridiculous and kids never use the whole name anyway. In grade school there was Catherine PS and Sarah KT because they didn’t feel like writing out their double last name.

Mercedes, our baby’s last name is about a power struggle. And we broke up because the relationship just wasn’t working. We don’t love each other romantically, so we weren’t going to pursue a romantic relationship. That doesn’t mean that we don’t get along, and that doesn’t mean that we don’t love each other platonically. We have absolutely no plans of getting back together, much less getting married.

His last name is Theler, and mine in Rhys. Theler-Rhys sounds okay, I’m not so sure about Rhys-Theler. Thank you for the advice!

For names, I really like:
Louisa
Lyra
Cleo
Gisele
Zara
Felicity
Eva
Delia
Alice
Esme
Tallulah

Jonah
Luca
Jack
Ashton
Rafferty
Milo
Memphis

Thanks again!

The baby’s last name needs to be yours, unless and until you are married. How do you know the baby’s father will be in his life forever? You don’t. To avoid any problems and confusion for the kid in the future, give the baby your last name.
