Baby Name Poll Results
A vs. Confusing vs. List
Hey mommies! My husband and I have put the names we like into a list, however it’s a pretty confusing list. We separated them into three lists that I will post. Which do you like the best overall and with our last name? If you have other suggestions, feel free to comment them but our requirements have not changed. The names cannot start with the letters K, C, L, S, B, G, or E; they have to be old fashioned names with a nickname option; and they cannot be unisex or a boy name. Thank you SO much again and I’m sorry if we seem rude/picky, it’s been very hard for us to find a new name since we can no longer use Penelope! -The Kopitar Family
The Top Baby Name is...
Names with nicknames already decided (do not give any other nickname ideas for this list):
Names that need nicknames:
Amalice (dislike Molly)
Amelia (dislike Amy/Mel/Mia)
Aurelia (Ellie/Lia do not fit requirements)
Francesca (dislike Fran/Frannie/Chessie/Frescy/Francie/Frankie/Frances—we’re considering just getting rid of this name)
Juliet (Jude does not fit requirements)
Miriam (dislike Miri)
Ophelia (dislike O.P. and Lia does not fit requirements)
Nicknames that need full names:
Ada (dislike Adelaide/Adeline/Adaline/Adalee/Adela)
Dottie (dislike Dorothea/Dorothy)
Hattie (dislike Harriet/Henrietta)
Didn’t realize it until now, however the first name under ones that need nicknames should read "Amalia" not "Amalice"! We also like the nickname Delia (but dislike Delilah as a full name)
My fave from the first list is Wilhelmina nn Willa. Also like Immy and Thea.
Millie would also work as a nn for Amelia.
Julie for Juliet?
My cousin Miriam goes by Mim. Mimi would also work?
That’s my only idea based on your list... I don’t see other options for the other names.
I’m guessing since you don’t like the other full names that Adalia or Adelia wouldn’t work? But that would get you the nicknames Ada or Delia.
I like Athena. Very pretty and works wonderfully on all ages.
I would agree that you should probably get rid of Francesca just because it’s probably impossible to find any other nickname options. I’ve sat here thinking and thinking, but none come to mind.
Juliet is super pretty. My niece has the name and her father sometimes calls her Jules (sounds like jewels).
There’s Araminta nn Minta or Minty or Ara.
Adara nn Ada
Adrienne nn Ada
We don’t like Julie or Jules, Aurie, Adalia, or Adelia, sorry! We’re strongly considering tossing Juliet, Francesca, and Aurelia out at this point.
We like the idea of Millie for Amelia, though!
Araminta is too weird for us and we don’t like Adara/Adrienne, sorry
I know of someone named Madeline who goes by Del, so I think you might be able to get Della or Delia out of it.
We don’t like Madeline, sorry!
Aurelia nn. Aura, Ria, Rae, Raya
Amaya nn Maya?
Alyssia nn Lyssi?
Danica nn Dani or Nica?
Felicity nn Cita?
Harmony nn Moni/Mona?
Josephine/Josephina nn Josie/Josa/Phina/Sephie?
Miranda nn Mira/Manda/Mandie?
Melinda nn Mel?
Natalia nn Talia?
Natasha nn Tasha?
Olivia nn Via?
Patricia nn Patti/Tricia?
Teresa nn Terri/Tessa/Tess/Resa?
Veronica nn Vera/Roni/Nica?
Hope this helps.
I like Alessandra nn Alice and Matilda nn Millie.
I love Francesca, maybe Cesca, Frenchie, Cassie, Annie, Ches?
Juliet nn Julie.
Miriam nn Millie, Mimi, Mira, Ria, Remy
Ada nn for Adalia, Adina, Adora, Adrienne, Adabella, Adalene, Adalina, Adaline?
Ophelia nn. Faye, Phe (phee), Fifi
Why can’t you use Penelope?
We don’t like any of those nicknames for Aurelia, sorry!
We kind of like Natalia (Talia) but not completely sure. Please keep in mind that there are letters we cannot use and we do not want unisex/boy names, and that extends to the nicknames as well
Amelia nn. Mimi, Melly, Milly, Lee/Li/Lea
We don’t like Faye, Phe, or Fifi, sorry!
We had explained it on our first poll but we cannot use Penelope because my sister and her husband just named their newborn daughter Penelope
We like Millie (don’t like the Y) for Amelia! Please remember that we CANNOT use K, C, S, B, G, or E for both full names and nicknames
Miriam nn. Mimi, Ria, Mim
We don’t like Mimi, Ria, or Mim, sorry!
Full names for Dottie:
Doris, Dolores, Doretta
We don’t like those full names, sorry! It seems like we’re realizing a bunch of name that we are going to have to toss out
Full name for Hattie:
Charlotte (could also use Lottie)
For the nickname Ada, I’ve come up with Adamina, Adara (which you’ve already said no to), Avada, Adalie (and yes it is an old-fashioned name, I checked), Adalyse and Adlina. Other options if you liked the full name Avada, could be Ava, Vada, or Ada.
LivvyTheMum, we really appreciate all of your ideas but PLEASE remember that we cannot use certain letters, and that includes for nicknames! We like Matilda, as it is already on our list, but would we have to spell it with the H for Hattie to work as a nickname?
Ada is another one of the names we’ve considering giving up on. We don’t like any of those full names, sorry
Sorry, as soon as I posted it I remembered the letters! You could use just Matilda for Hattie.... Mathilda makes more sense but I still think it works! Millie is also good for Matilda and so if you choose it, your daughter will be able to choose what she goes by when she’s older and she’ll have a range of choice! I love Matilda! Good Luck!
Here are some more suggestions, I hope you like at least one: :)
Abigail: Abbie, Abby, Gail
Alexandra: Allie, Ally, Alexa
Allison: Allie, Ally, Ali
Audrey: Dee, Audie
Augusta/Augustine: Aggy, Augie
We’re still not sure about the spelling, so we’ll probably keep both nicknames (Hattie and Millie) and both spellings on our list for a while
Of the ones we like, we can’t use as they don’t fit our requirements. We like Audrey and Aurora however Audrey isn’t a "nickname type name" to us and Rory/Rori doesn’t fit our requirements. We don’t like the other names sorry
What are some names you lived while pregnant with your other kids?
Delia: Dell, Della
Florence: Flo, Flossie, Flora
Helena: Nell, Nellie
Isadora: Issy, Dora
Jemima: Jem, Jemma, Mimi
Joanna: Anna, Jo
Some of the others we liked from my previous pregnancies were Emmeline, Genevieve, Lillian, and Beatrice
We like Delia (but ONLY as a nickname) and Helena (dislike Nell/Nellie, though)
Amalie nn Millie
Magdaline/Magdalena: Maggie, Mag, Ali
Margaret/Marguerite: Maggie, Margie, Marjorie, Margot, Maisie, Mae, may, Meg, Rita
Maribel/Maribelle: Mary, Ari
Prudence: Prudie, Prudy, Pru,Prue
Rosabel/Rosabelle: Rose, Rosie, Rosy
Rosemary: Rose, Rosie, Rosy, Mary
We like Amalia and Amelia, but not Amalie, though we do like Millie
If you have more children and its a boy. Are there any names you love now?
We like the nickname Rose/Rosie/Rosa but we don’t like Rosabel or Rosemary; so far the only one we like is Rosalind
Theresa/Teresa: Tess, Tessa, Tessie, Tracy
Valerie: Val, Vallie
Victoria: Vickie, Vicky, Vicki, Tori, Tory
Vivian/Vivien/Vivienne: Vi, Viv
Fiona nn Fifi, Tabitha nn Tabby, Justine nn Tina.
We don’t plan on having anymore children, though we were considering Nathaniel if we did have a boy.
We don’t like any of those, sorry Christy!
We like Fiona but we don’t like Fifi; it’s also a bit too short for what we want.
Tabitha had been suggested many time on our other poll, but it just reminds us of a cat, sorry!
Pauline nn Paula
We don’t like Paulina or Paula sorry!
Natalia nn Tallie
We are still considering Natalia but we only like Talia as a nickname
Valentina nn Val
Hadley: Haddie (The same as Hattie)
We don’t like Jillian/Jill and we like Valentina but we don’t like Val/Vally/Tina
Hadley does not fit our requirements, it is much too trendy
Jemima nn Mima or Priscilla nn Cilla.
Jemima reminds us of the syrup and we don’t like Priscilla sorry
Odelia nn Delia, Ophelia nn Hettie, Olivia nn Via.
What names do you kid’s like?
We like Delia and Ophelia but we don’t like Odelia or Hettie
Mallory nn Mal
Kordelia doesn’t fit our requirements, please keep in mind the letters we cannot use.
We haven’t asked our children since they don’t have much interest in names
We don’t like Mallory or Mal sorry
Julianna: Julie, Anna, Ann, Ianna
We like Pearl however it is too short and isn’t a "nickname type name"
Philippa nn Pippa
We are warming up to Pippa, but we really don’t like Philippa sorry!
Arielle nn Ari or Melody nn Mel
We don’t like any of those, sorry, they sound too trendy to us
Rowena: Row, Roe, Rowan, Roanne
We do not want a unisex or boy name so Rowan would not work and we don’t like the others, sorry
Pippa nn Pip
Pippa is too short for us to use as a full name, we would only ever consider it as a nickname
Ruthann nn Ruthie
We don’t like Ruthann, sorry
Marcia nn Marcy
We don’t like Marcia, sorry
Ruthellen, Ruthelle, Ruthetta, Ruthina or Ruthine.
We don’t like any of those, we\’re not totally loving Ruth or Ruthie in general sorry
Rebekah, Rachel, Vanessa, Pamela, Jennifer. Don’t worry to much about nicknames.
We don’t like any of those. A nickname is a requirement to us, so it is a worry. All of our requirements are for a reason, so please just suggest names that will fit those
We do not like Naomi and it doesn’t fit the requirement of a nickname either sorry
I understand its important but choose long names you like then start the eliminating process. A nickname could be for personality too.
Please do not try to change what we want for our child; as I have said, we have all of these for a specific reason. And while some may not be important to others it is important to us, so please respect that this is what we want. This poll wasn’t exactly created just for a bunch more suggestions; the main point was to see which people thought was best with our last name and if they liked a name that was from the list that either didn’t have a nickname or a nickname that didn’t have a first name to give suggestions for those. We were also open to ideas if people thought none of our names went with our last name. It just turned out that people gave more suggestions than saying which they liked from our lists.
Millicent, Roberta, Phyllis, Jeanine, Felicia, Margaret, Marissa or Melissa.
We do not like any of those, sorry!
At this point, we have seen many of the same names so we are pretty much done looking for suggestions. We really appreciate everyone that did give ideas. We have tossed out some of the names on our list and have added a few
I am not being disrespectful I’m trying to be helpful. Which names do you like? Y’all keep saying which ones you dislike comparing to the ones you do like. I can give nicknames better if you tell me your favorite nn or long name.
Faith nn Fay
Our names that we are looking for nicknames for are from the first comment, we have agreed on using Millie as a nickname for Amelia (and possibly Amalia as well) and considering Hattie for Matilda too. We have only added a few to the list.
The reason we have said the ones we dislike are because we haven’t found any from the suggestions that we do really like; there have been a few but for the most part we hadn’t come across anything. So I’m not really sure how to give feedback other than saying we didn’t like them?
We still haven’t found a nickname for Aurelia, Francesca, Juliet, Miriam, Ophelia, and Helena. And we haven’t found first names for Ada, Delia, or Pippa
Faith is too short and we don’t like Fay
Of the names you like with nicknames:
Athena (Thea) Best option and both names are cute.
Imogen (Immy) Second best option, as Imogen is a favorite of mine.
Alessandra (Alice) is cute but I don’t really care for Alice as the nickname.
Anastasia (Ana) doesn’t really seem old-fashioned to me, sorry.
Matilda (Millie)- I like and seems to fit your criteria
Rosalind (Rosa/Rose/Rosie) - Don’t really care for at all
Wilhelmina (Willa)-Don’t really care for at all
Thank you for the opinion on the names from the first part of our list!
I also left out Dottie which we have not found a first name for either
Of the names that need nicknames:
Amalice (dislike Molly)- You could use Alice as a nickname and you do like Alice as previously state. I do not particularly like the name, reminds me of head lice. Sorry
Amelia (dislike Amy/Mel/Mia) - Millie is a cute nickname and I think you stated that was an option. Amelia is a pretty name but VERY POPULAR.
Aurelia (Ellie/Lia do not fit requirements)- You could use Aria as a nickname. Very pretty name.
Francesca (dislike Fran/Frannie/Chessie/Frescy/Francie/Frankie/Frances—we’re considering just getting rid of this name)- That’s basically all the nicknames for this name and probably should just throw out b/c I don’t think there’s another option you like.
Juliet (Jude does not fit requirements)- Julie fits the requirement but I don’t think you like that one, nor Jules. What about Uli, yes it’s a real name. It’s not an American name but I know a lady on Project Runway who was named this and it could be an option, if you liked. It’s a pretty name.
Miriam (dislike Miri)- Only other nickname I can think of is RiRi, and I’m sure you won’t like that. I don’t personally care for the name.
Ophelia (dislike O.P. and Lia does not fit requirements)- a favorite of mine and you’ve turned down every nickname option everyone has come up with. You’ll probably chunk this one out to. When I wrote O.P. I meant Opie or Opal could be another nickname option.
Christy, if you look at the second comment, you’ll see that I meant Amalia rather than Amalice (not exactly sure why I typed Amalice!).
We have agreed that we are going to get rid of Francesca we’re fairly certain any and all nicknames for it have been suggested and we don’t like any of them. We do not like Julie, Jules, or Uli and cannot find any other nickname so this is one we plan on tossing as well. We dislike RiRi a lot, sorry.
We do like Aria (though it may be a stretch from Aurelia?) and we are warming up to Opal as a nickname for Ophelia. We are also not too concerned with popularity as our children have semi-popular names as well
Of these nicknames that need full names:
Ada (dislike Adelaide/Adeline/Adaline/Adalee/Adela)- Really wish I could have helped you on this one, Ada is an absolute beautiful nickname or name and I personally like every choice I gave you as a full first name option. Probably going to chunk this one too, as there aren’t any other options there.
Dottie (dislike Dorothea/Dorothy)- I dislike Dottie but love Dorothea nn Thea.
Hattie (dislike Harriet/Henrietta)- I love Hattie/Haddie and gave a suggestions of Hadley but you stated it was too trendy. I disagree, Harper is way more popular along with being unisex and is more widely used instead of Hadley. Hadley is just cute.
I don’t like Amalia either, sorry. But I do like Malia, wierd huh?
We dislike Dorothea, as stated behind Dottie so we wouldn’t use it as a full name for Thea. Thea was originally on our looking for full name and someone had suggested Athena, which was the only full name we liked for Thea. Hadley is too trendy for us, just because it is being used more than Harper, doesn’t make it any less trendy. It does not fit what we are looking for-it is actually unisex which we do not want and it doesn’t hit that "girly/elegant" factor for us
I really like Ophelia nn Opal. I think I like it so much b/c of the "lia" sound it makes. I hope that makes sense, I love Delia but don’t have any other choices to give you on that one either. Delilah is the only one that fits your criteria, Cordelia (which is awesome) doesn’t. Sorry
We’re the exact opposite as you, so I guess that makes both of us weird? We really like Amalia but we don’t like Malia!
My husband and I have agreed that these are the ones we will probably have to toss: Francesca, Juliet, Miriam, Ada, and Dottie
I understand what you mean by the "lia" part; and there is just something about Delilah that we really don’t like. We do like Cordelia a lot however it doesn’t work for us, unfortunately
My opinions on the names you like:
Athena (Thea) Quite nice, I not a fan of Thea though this is only my opinion.
Imogen (Immy) Imogen is quite popular, I don’t mind it though...)
Alessandra (Alice) Love the name, though nn is quite plain in comparison
Anastasia (Ana) my favorite! By a long way!
Matilda/Mathilda (Millie, Hattie) Also my favorite as it has more than one nickname which is important!
Rosalind (Rose) I’m not much of a flower name person so no.
Wilhelmia (Willa) no offense, but I really don’t like this one... It’s too long and it sounds a bit drab in my my opinion.
My favourites from best to worst:
I wish you guys would consider using Delia as a first name option. I know it seems to only be a nickname but I just adore it! Dee, Dede, Del are cute nicknames. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.
I adore Theadora but understand you have a friend with this name so that settles that.
Of all the names:
Athena nn Thea
Ophelia nn Opal
Are my favorite!!!
I forgot to add Imogen nn Immy. Imogen just seems like a timeless classic.
Delia is just too short for us as a full name, and we don’t like the sound of Dee or Dede and Del just looks odd to us, sorry!
We have edited our list and may possibly create a poll with our final list later
Amanda(Manda)or(Mandy)u know what I don’t even know this is just 2 much WHATEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very interested as to what they actually named their daughter.
