Too vs. Close?

Hey there! We posted last night and got some mixed reviews, so we’d like to get opinions from a different crowd. We have one daughter, Genevieve (Evie), and we are in love with Emmeline with the nickname Emmy for her little sister. However we’re worried that Emmy is too close to Evie. Do you think we should try to find a new name or leave it? If you give suggestions for a new name, please do not suggest Kimberly, Victoria/Tori, or Alexandra/any nickname for that, as those were suggested last night and we do not like them. Thanks for the opinions! -Annora and Jonathan

I think Emmy and Evie are too close.
How about Gemma & Genevieve?

Depends how you’re pronouncing Evie. If it’s like Ev-ee then yeah they’re too close. If it’s Ee-vee then I think they’re fine

I love Genevieve and Evie but am not as keen on Emmeline and I dislike Emmy, sorry.
What about -
Georgia - Georgie
Francesca - Frankie/Fran/Chessy
Angelique/Angelina - Angie/Lina
Josephine - Josie
Natasha - Tasha

We don’t like Gemma. This will probably make no sense at all; but we don’t want to use another G name as we do not want their "long names" to start with the same letter however we love Emmy so we are kind of okay with their nicknames starting with the same letter. Again, that probably makes no sense but I’m not exactly sure how to explain what we are looking for or why are are looking for that

Evie’s name is pronounced ee-vee. Please put aside your personal views on Emmeline/Emmy; we are not asking if you like the name or not. We are just wondering if the names are too close, and if they are, only then please give suggestions

Try to imagine yelling their names across the house. If you can’t tell them apart from their bedroom with the door shut to the other end of the house, then they’re too close.

I think Emmy and Evie would be near impossible to tell apart.

How about Emmelin nn Lin and Evie? Those you can tell apart!

I don’t think Evie and Emmy are too close at all. I think they’d be cute for sisters. :-)

The spelling of Emmelin looks very incomplete to us and we don’t like the nickname Lin, sorry! The only nickname we would use for Emmeline would be Emmy, so please give new name ideas!

LOVE Emmy and Evie together.

Not too close at all.

Emmy and Evie are totally distinguishable from eachother. It’s not like Timmy and Tommy or Polly and Lolly or anything. They’re not too similar. They’re just right.

I think they are too close, sorry.

I think they are rather close and some of the names suggested in earlier posts above are pretty alternatives.

We haven’t really liked any of the suggestions (so sorry everyone, but thank you for suggesting them!), can you think of any other ideas?

I think Evie and Emmy are great together, but here’s some suggestions in case you’re unsure.

Adelheid "Heidi"
Tatiana "Tatty"
Isadora "Issy/Dory"
Millicent "Millie"
Jessamine "Jessi"
Harriet "Hattie"
Seraphine "Sadie"
Tamara "Tammy"

Like any?

I really like Millicent/Millie and Jonathan likes Millie but he doesn’t like Millicent, he thinks it’s too old and dated. We both like the idea of Hattie, though I have a cousin who is named Henry (but he always goes by Harry) that I am very close with

Ah, okay. Here’s a few more names Millie can be short for.

Mildred
Camilla
Amelia
Milena
Melissa
Melinda
Matilda

And you could maybe do Adeline "Addy"? It sounds kind of similar to Hattie.

We like Camilla, Amelia, and Matilda! Jonathan had also suggested "Mila" as a nickname for Camilla, any opinions on that?

I really hate Addy, sorry! I’m not sure what it is about it, but I just cannot stand it

Evie and Emmy aren’t too clase at all and I really don’t think it matters since they are their nicknames. My older sister and I have very similar sounding nicknames even more so than Evie and Emmy and though it was sometimes hard to distinguise which was said from opposite ends of the house, we never had any major problems with it. I am named Rachel nn Rae and she is named Lacey nn Lae. My cousin also has girls named Addalyn who goes by the nn Addie and their older daughter Scarlett goes by Letty. Addie and Letty are very close but it is never a problem. People love their names am always complement how well thu go together and how cite ther nicknames are.

Genevieve nn Evie and Emmeline nn Emmy is a great sister set.

Haha, okay. I guess Addy isn’t for everyone. xp I really like Mila as a nickname for Camilla! Pretty and sweet.
