Baby vs. Ellie!

We love the nickname Ellie but we can’t find a full name we love just as much! We know for 100% certainty that Ellie will not be her full name, so please do not try to convince us to do that. We find Elizabeth and Eleanor a bit bland and we can’t use Eloise. What are some other nice full names for Ellie? Ellie has one big brother named Charles Frank "Charlie". Thanks! -The Crosby Family

We don’t love any of those either, sorry Olivia! Ellison and Ellery are boy names to us so we wouldn’t want to give one of those to our daughter!

It is seeming like we won’t find a full name for Ellie, which is a bit saddening, so we may have to completely start over on her name.

What do you think of Ellis? I actually know a real life sibset with an Ellis and Charles, nn Ellie and Charlie (sister in the middle is named Grace).

How about Shelley nn Elley? Y’all might just need to name her Ellie since you aren’t finding the right name.
posted by guest: H :: 2013-12-20 20:36:02 | report
Shelley is too dated for us; sorry H! Like we have previously said in our poll, her full name will never be Ellie. If we can’t find a full name we will have to let Ellie go and start over.

What type of names do you like besides Ellie?
posted by guest: H :: 2013-12-20 20:38:18 | report
I think you’re going to have to let it go. It’s better to pick a name you like with a nickname that makes sense than pick a name that is a huge stretch to get that nickname.
posted by guest :: 2013-12-20 20:38:35 | report
We hadn’t looked at any other names, really. We came across Ellie and fell in love and hadn’t looked at other names that didn’t relate to looking for a full name for it. We want something like Charlie’s name, a classic name that will age well and has a nickname.

I’m sorry we’re difficult, but it’s hard to find that perfect name for your baby. We would not be able to make a poll since we really don’t have any names that we do like; sorry!
posted by guest: Poll Poster :: 2013-12-20 20:48:54 | report
I agree it’s hard to find a name but I think you are making a mistake starting with a nickname. Start over, nicknames are silly anyway.
posted by guest :: 2013-12-20 20:52:04 | report
I agree that maybe you should start looking for names that you like first. Nicknames can come later.
posted by guest :: 2013-12-20 20:53:26 | report
We don’t think nicknames are silly, especially since our son has a nickname. It’s important to us for our daughter to have a nickname as well. We also didn’t go out looking for only a nickname, we just came across Ellie and fell in love with it (but not as a full name)
posted by guest: Poll Poster :: 2013-12-20 20:53:34 | report
We haven’t found any other names we love. Nicknames are very important to us, so we would have to look for them and make sure a name has a nickname option before we could really consider it for our daughter
posted by guest: Poll Poster :: 2013-12-20 20:54:25 | report
Elianna.
And if you live Ellie, use Ellie. There are nicknames for Ellie too. If it’s that important to you.
posted by guest :: 2013-12-20 20:56:18 | report
Why an earth is a nickname important to you?! They are pointless if you have a nice name that isn’t too long.
posted by guest :: 2013-12-20 20:58:03 | report
Elianna is too trendy for us; sorry guest! We love Ellie, but we have already said that we do not want people to try to push us into using it as her full name. We know that we will not now, nor ever do so. Ellie is not a full name to us and we can’t think of any nicknames for it that we would love.
posted by guest: Poll Poster :: 2013-12-20 20:58:03 | report
Maybe to you they are pointless but to us they have meaning and significance. It really isn’t important as to why we need one but please just respect that that is what we want, need, and are looking for. Thank you.

Then start over or use it as a middle name... I can read. I know you don’t want persuasion. However) , it’s a cute name that is fine.

Elouise is pretty.

Her middle name will definitely be a family name, it’s tradition and holds a lot of meaning to us. We have been trying to start over but we have come up with nothing that we love

Yeah, I think you guys are S.O.L. when it comes to using Ellie. Either you’re going to have to settle for a first name that isn’t perfect but serviceable, or deal with a nickname you don’t love. I say name her Eleanor, because a little too plain is better than anything else, and Elizabeth is super popular. Plus, you won’t hear it much, since she’ll always be called Ellie.

Please do not try to persuade us toward using Ellie as a full name. We have stated, multiple times now, that we are not now or ever going to use Ellie as a full name. Having a nickname is important to us so she will have a full name, with a nickname, like her big brother. We don’t like any of those; sorry guest!

As of right now, Penelope is the only name we like and the more we say it the more we like it. So we will most likely be going with Penelope "Ellie"!
