Yes. I know a few Olivia’s who go by Libby. Another option is Elizabeth. I know an Elizabeth who goes by Libby too.

Technically, a nickname doesn’t have to relate to the name at all. However, I do think people would think that you were saying Livvie and not Libby.

I think if you love it and aren’t a fan of Elizabeth/Liberty you could use it as a stand alone first name. It is being used more often as a first name. In the States it ranked 915 in 2012 so not that popular but not unheard of. GL.

Why couldn’t it be a nickname for Olivia? It makes more sense than Elizabeth, in any case.
And anyway, I know plenty of people with nicknames that aren’t necessarily the traditional nickname for their name: Jake for Jason, Meg for Margaret, Kate for Katarina, Mary for Margaret...
