Girl vs. Name vs. Ideas

Hey there! We are trying to find a first name for our princess but we’ve been coming up short. We want something that is sweet and classic but has a hint of spunk to it. Any ideas? We kind of want the name to be on the shorter side, since our last name is 10 letters long. Thank you!

We like Cora, Isla, Josie, Lola, Ava, Lydia, and Delia! Is Josie OK on its own? Or is it more of a nickname only?

I would automatically eliminate Ava, Ella, Lucy, Sophia, Lily and Audrey. Although they are beautiful they are very popular. I love your boy names!
posted by guest: Olivia :: 2014-01-10 21:10:22 | report
Thank you! Usually popularity doesn’t bother us but since our list is so long, we may take that into consideration more so than we did with our boys

My favorites would be Ada, Cora, Daisy, Vera, Josie, Gracie, Alice and Elsa!

So many great names!! I love Aria, Audrey, Clara, Cora, Eden, Elsa, Emme, Grace, Helena, Ruby and Vera! GL

Thanks Olivia! We’re kind of debating getting rid of names starting with C and L due to our last name beginning with K and we’re not sure if we really like alliteration and since she’s going to be our last, we wouldn’t want Miles to seem left out not having a name beginning with L
posted by guest: Poll Asker :: 2014-01-10 21:13:45 | report
I think Miles, Leo and Ada would be adorable!
posted by guest: Olivia :: 2014-01-10 21:14:16 | report
Thanks guest! We may post another poll and see which people like the most (or which people like with Miles & Leo)!

Ada has really been growing on me more and more! My husband likes it but he also likes a bunch of other names! I like that it’s similar to Ava but a little less popular!
posted by guest: Poll Asker :: 2014-01-10 21:15:01 | report
That’s true! I think I would eliminate the C and L names too.
posted by guest: Olivia :: 2014-01-10 21:15:46 | report
We’ve decided we’re definitely getting rid of L names along with Clara and possibly Cora (I’m becoming attached to that one!)
posted by guest: Poll Asker :: 2014-01-10 21:17:27 | report
I feel the same way about Ada! Maybe y’all need to have another one after her to use another name ;) LOL. Any name you choose will be perfect!
posted by guest: Olivia :: 2014-01-10 21:17:30 | report
I can see why! Cora is refreshing and goes great with Miles and Leo.
posted by guest: Olivia :: 2014-01-10 21:18:45 | report
LOL! If my husband will go through birth instead of me, I’ll have 10 more ;) You all made this whole thing so much harder for us! (But it a good way, of course!)

What would be you and your husband’s top 5 from the list. You do yours and he do his.
posted by guest: Olivia :: 2014-01-10 21:20:28 | report
Haha. :P well maybe adoption or hire a surrogate! Lol. I just love names! Especially classics!
posted by guest: Olivia :: 2014-01-10 21:22:24 | report
Oh goodness, only 5?!

Mine would be:
Ada
Cora
Eden
Emme
Stella

My husbands are:
Cora
Eden
Gwen
Josie
Rose/Rosie

Us too! With Miles and Leo; when they were born neither of their names were overly common (unlike now as they are getting a little more popular) but we liked how they are technically classics that don’t sound too old!
posted by guest: Poll Asker :: 2014-01-10 21:23:40 | report
Two overlaps on your lists are Cora and Eden. I prefer Cora because Eden just sounds so harsh for a little girl in my opinion. I also like Ada. Cora and Ada are my favorites!
posted by guest: Abby :: 2014-01-10 21:27:26 | report
Ok! Top 10! And I agree, there are some old names I like that I kinda hope make a comeback!
posted by guest: Olivia :: 2014-01-10 21:27:35 | report
Isla, Isla, oh sweet Isla. One of the prettiest and ageless names out there :)
posted by guest :: 2014-01-10 21:27:57 | report
I love Cora! You both seem to like that one and it sounds great with your boy’s names. Eden is also really nice.
posted by guest :: 2014-01-10 21:28:25 | report
Are there any names on your list that are just okay?
posted by guest: Olivia :: 2014-01-10 21:28:38 | report
Maybe you can take your top names to the hospital as then decide there when she’s born.
posted by guest :: 2014-01-10 21:31:04 | report
Clara, cora and eliza would be ones to eliminate easily. They sound kind of harsh and old. Not classic, but just old.
posted by guest :: 2014-01-10 21:31:05 | report
Thank you both Abby and Olivia! We realized that we had both Cora & Eden on our lists so we’re taking that into consideration! It’s so hard since we’re really falling in love with so many of the names!

My top 10 would have to be:
Ada
Cora
Eden
Emme
Stella
Gwen
Josie
Audrey
Delia
Ruby

My husband’s are:
Cora
Eden
Gwen
Josie
Rose/Rosie
Vera
Natalia
Emme (he also likes the spelling Emmy)
Daisy
Stella

I don’t think Clara or Cora sound too old at all. They are sweet and classic. GL! Cora, Emme and Ruby are my favorites on your list. Good luck!
posted by guest :: 2014-01-10 21:32:38 | report
Sorry for taking forever to comment back! My husband took forever on his top 10! There are a few we are kind of shying away from: Aria, Helena, and Isla are the main ones we’re kind of not loving as much as others.

Thanks for the idea for the hospital! If we could narrow it down to like 3 names or so, we will definitely keep them and see which fits the best!

Well you both have Cora, Eden, Gwen and Josie down! Love Ada from your list and Daisy from his! Do you have any middle names in mind?
posted by guest: Olivia :: 2014-01-10 21:37:55 | report
We realized that as well! As for middle names, it’s been a little more difficult for us. We want to honor both of our mothers but we’re not exactly sure how we want to do so. My mother’s name is Teresa and my mother-in-law’s name is Jean. We had considered doing two middle names, but since our last name is long we weren’t sure if that would be a good idea!
posted by guest: Poll Asker :: 2014-01-10 21:40:37 | report
Oh, Vera is spunky and classic too!
posted by guest: Olivia :: 2014-01-10 21:40:59 | report
What about using your first or middle name as her middle name?
posted by guest: Olivia :: 2014-01-10 21:42:42 | report
Well Rose is actually my middle name, so we’re actually considering it for her first name! I’m not a fan of my first name so I don’t really want to give it to my daughter
posted by guest: Poll Asker :: 2014-01-10 21:44:04 | report
Miles, Leo and Rose are cute :) Ada Rose and Cora Rose are beautiful!
posted by guest: Olivia :: 2014-01-10 21:49:09 | report
Thanks Olivia! Growing up I always thought my middle name was so boring and way too common as a middle name, but if we really can’t come up with anything for her middle name (and we don’t choose Rose as her first name) we will probably end up using it!
posted by guest: Poll Asker :: 2014-01-10 21:54:03 | report
Ada Rose is perfect !
posted by guest: Allie :: 2014-01-10 22:07:38 | report
Thanks Allie! But we really want to honor our mothers since they both have had such an impact on our lives and have been so supportive of us. We’re just not sure if using two middle names is an overkill
