Nickname For vs. Nephew

Let’s say your sister who you love just had a baby who you love so much. She named him Joseph James and although you like James, you can’t stand Joseph. To make matters worse, she nicknamed him Joe, a name you have a hard time calling a little boy by. You want to give him a nickname, so you call him JJ, James, Jimmy, and Hudson (Hudson is your favorite name that your husband won’t let you use.) Your sister has a block against JJ and Hudson and doesn’t really appreciate you telling people that his name is anything but Joseph or Joe. What do you do?

Unfortunately, it’s your sister’s child. Just respect her wishes, and eventually it’ll get easier.

Respect your sister and the baby, and call him by his name.

Well I wouldn’t have the authority to tell anyone to call him anything that isn’t his name if I wasn’t his mom. She has the right to say, that isn’t his name, just like I would for my child. Honestly, I agree though that joe sounds like a bald middle aged man to me and I can’t see it on a little boy. I might call him Joey but it really is up to his mom which isn’t me.

Like others said I would respect the mother’s wishes and call her son by his name or the nickname she has given him. It’s her son and she has the right to have a say in what he should be called.

Respect your sister. He is her child anyway. Call him what she wants you to call him.

Call him Joe. And seriously you call him Hudson... Wow, if I were your sister I wouldn’t let you see him b/c of your absolute lack of respect.

I really dislike when people try to call my son anything other than his name and the nickname we chose. If they don’t, I see it as a lack of respect.

You call him by his name. Joseph is a perfectly good name, or call him by his mn.

Lets pretend that he is your child and you sent him to school. And you got a note from a teacher saying she hates the name Hudson reminds her of her ex. So she is going to call your kid Joseph. She doesn’t care what you think or what you named your child. Yeah, that is exactly what you are doing to your sister. Not very respectful is it?
