I asked earlier, but didn’t get much response. What do you think of the name Dixie for a little girl? We love it, but my mother hates it and thinks she would be bullied terribly.

It is okay. Not really my style. I think it would make a better nickname, though I don’t know for what first name, then a first name. GL.

I think it’s adorable. I’ve only ever known one Dixie personally. I am not aware of any teasing or bullying whatsoever. She certainly did not have the personality of a victim of bullying. She was very self assured and personable. Just an all around likeable girl.

no...seems so old southern...sorry; I knew of twins Dixie and Dawn; Dixie died in a fire; tragic. I do know that she disliked her name.

Dixie is beautiful. I love its symbolism and historical importance!
During the American Civil War, Dixie was the song most used by the Confederates. After the war ended, Abraham Lincoln requested that the military band strike up the tune of Dixie, as a show of forgiveness and a willingness to work together to reconstruct the nation.
So, to me, Dixie means forgiveness, unity, second-chances, togetherness, and brotherhood. It has so much meaning behind it! :-)
