Ari(Pronounced R-E) Don vs. Ariel (Pronounced R-E-L) Dawn

Baby #2’s(and our last baby) name is packed to the brim with sentiments. But my question is, does the name flow? Or does it sound odd? Name #1 is if we get a boy and name #2 is if we get a girl(unlikely). So the first name, Ari or Ariel, is after my best friend that passed away. I loved her dearly and conveniently always loved her name ;) Don was my favorite grandpa and Dawn is my sister’s name(she is pretty much my favorite person in the world). Finally the initials ADM sound like "Adam" who was my husbands little brother that passed away. If you’re still reading - thank you! I know this is a lot of explanation for one name. So with all of that being said, I would love some honest feedback with how this name sounds as a whole.

The Top Baby Name is...

Name Votes
Ari(pronounced r-e) Don Merz 75% (3 votes)
Ariel (pronounced r- Dawn Merz 25% (1 votes)

I am not a fan of Ari for a boy. Personally, I find it really girly and a nickname for girl names like Aria or Ariana.
Ariel is okay. I think it would more likely be pronounced AIR ee el

Love Ari, was you granddads full name Donald? As think that sounds nicer with Ari.
Ariel Dawn is very pretty

Ari is a masculine name, poster two. It’s Hebrew. Just because it sounds ’girly’ (which it doesn’t) does not mean its feminine.

His name was just Don. Not short for anything. I agree with the last poster. Ari is a very masculine name. It means Lion in Hebrew! haha and my friend got her name pronouced AIR-ee-el all the time and hated it. I guess that is something to think about.

I actually agree with poster 2. Ari sounds more feminine than masculine to me. I’ve known an Aria who goes by Ari, and another girl whose full name is Ari and I have yet to meet a boy. That being said, it doesn’t sound bad for a boy.

Also, Ariel will be said air-e-elle. I would never say it are-ee-elle, unless I was told to. Arielle might be better if you’re going to be really picky on the pronunciation (which is okay!). It would be less likely to be mispronounced.

Air e l is prettier...even Arielle

I think you might have better luck with R-E-L pronunciation if you used Arielle instead of Ariel (same spelling as Disney mermaid pronounced Air-E-L).
I have mixed feelings about Ari for a boy. The only Ari I know is Arianna (girl), but I think I have heard the name for a man before.
It sounds like you have put a lot of thought into your names. I think you will be hard-pressed to find anything else that fits all the criteria you want. If I were you, I’d go ahead with these names.

Love Ariel Dawn, and can’t see why you would have pronunciation issues

I love how your names have so much sentiment behind them, and how you’ve put so much thought and emotion behind them ;) I love Ari for a boy, and Ari Don sounds fine (it must flow well with your last name, I’m assuming...) I like the name Ariel, but agree that if you love the (AHR-ee-elle) pronunciation it should be spelled ’Arielle’. Coming from someone whose name is CONSTANTLY mispronounced, I think your child will thank you :) Good luck, and I wish you a smooth pregnancy!!
