Something vs. Like vs. Madeline
I’ve recently fallen in love with the name Madeline but my husband has vetoed it. He went to school with many Madeline/Madelyn/Madeleine’s and we used to have a mutual friend named Madeline (Maddie) and he says that he can’t get past the not-so-great associations. I can respect his feelings however I just can’t seem to find anything else I love nearly as much! Can you give a few suggestions I can share with my husband that I may like based on Madeline? I just feel as though it’s elegant and classy and girly but not too frilly. Thanks for your help! ~Shanna

I like Emmeline!
I kind of like Evelyn but I don’t think it is enough for me to really consider using it. The names don’t have to end with -line/lyn either!
In my circles Madison usually has strong negative connotations whereas Madeleine has strong positive connotations. Maybe it could be the opposite for you!
Emmeson, Adelaide, Genevieve. GL!
Both of us have hardly come across Madison’s in our lives, which slightly surprises me. But it does seem the opposite, my husband has had a fairly bad connections with Madeline/lyn/eine’s which has tainted the name for him completely :( I like Genevieve!
I like Cora and I like the idea of a "Rose" name! I’m not really a fan of most other -line/lyn names...Madeline was really the only one that I loved. I like the idea of a "Rose" name as it is my middle name and my grandmother’s middle name (I was extremely close with her). However I dislike Rosalie, Roslyn, and Rosaline and I don’t know how I feel about Rosalind, Rosamund, Penrose, or Primrose (the first two seem kind of dated to me and the other two just seem a little too different for me)
I like Matilda, Gemma, Beatrice, Genevieve, Gwendolyn, and Charlotte!
Isabelle / Isabella
Camille / Camilla
Why not use Rose as a first name? I love it as a first name!
I like Annabel, Isabella, Lila/ Lilah, Isla, Lucy, and Mira! I don’t know how I feel about simply "Rose" as a full name, I think it’s ’okay’ but I don’t love it. I think Rosie is a cute nickname but not a full name and if I can’t find a full name I like just as much, it just doesn’t seem worth it to me, if that makes sense
I like Elodie, Helena, Liliana, Vivienne, Elsa, Eden, and Penelope!
Have you found the one you love yet? Or do you still want more suggestions?
This my little short list for you :)
What do you think? Good luck!
I don’t know if I’ve found one that I am absolutely in love with; there are a lot of nice names that I would take into consideration and a few that I could see us naming our daughter. I just don’t know if perhaps I was expecting a name to jump out and say "THIS IS IT!" or if it will take some time and getting used to with a name.
Other suggestions are definitley welcomed! If it would help as well, I can post my list that I have?
I like Eden, Vera, Genevieve, Charlotte, Matilda, Beatrice, and Gemma! I like the meaning Rose holds to me, but I just don’t love it as a full name and don’t seem to love any of the variations of it either
^Gabriella & Sarah.
I would love to see your list! That might help.
Do you like Rose as middle name? Sarah Rose would be very pretty.
I think there will be a few I "delete" but here is the list I currently have
Sarah is the name of a former best friend of mine (we’d been best friends for 15+ years and it ended very badly) so that would be my version of "Madeline". I’d been considering Rose as a middle name, to kind of keep a tradition however I really would like to either use my mother’s name, my mother-in-law’s name, or both of their names as a double middle name. That is something my husband and I will probably decide on once we have a better idea of a first name
Okay here’s some more! I hope you fall in love with another name as much as you like Madeline!
I like Stella and Angelina! And thank you (and everyone else) for all of the suggestions, I really appreciate it!!
You picked a great selection!
out of the ones you picked I like-
I like Angelina and Eleanor! Eleanor is actually a family name, my great-grandmother’s so I like that factor a lot!
Thank you JackieLee! I do have a lot of names on the list that I like so I’ll probably end up having my husband look it over and hear his thoughts. He seems pretty tough when it comes to names, so the more the better is probably my motto as of right now, haha!
I like Ella, Brynn, Freya, Hazel, Lilia, and Lana! How would you all pronounce Lana; LANNE-uh or LAWN-uh?
My favorite from your list is Emmeline, but most of the others are really pretty, too!
Emmeline is at the mid-to-top of the ones I like the most; it’s definitley, in my mind, the closest to Madeline of my choices. We’ll see what my husband thinks of it! The nickname Emmy has been growing on me as well
Whoops, forgot to put after asking about Lana that I prefer it LAWN-uh but the mispronunciation thing worries me so I wanted to see what the "general public" thinks/how they would say it
Lawn-uh is close to the correct pronunciation, actually. I pronounce it lah-nuh.
Lah-nuh is actually a lot closer to how I really say it; I just couldn’t think of how to type it out, haha!
From what I’ve heard, most people pronounce it that way. My cousin and his wife have a daughter named Lana. She’s about 6 or 7 now and so far, there haven’t been any mispronunciation problems with her name.
I have that problem, too, sometimes. It’s sometimes hard to spell out pronunciations.
That’s good to hear!! I’ll definitley keep it on the list (like I said, the more, the better!!) and see what my husband thinks of it
It really is, haha! I tend to have a problem with not being able to figure out the right wording until after I post/send something lately...I blame it on the pregnancy brain ;)
You’re welcome! Glad I can help :)
You guys are going to make me cry, you’re seriously some of the most amazing and helpful people I’ve talked to!!! I like Bellamy, Ivy, Laurel, Aria, Scarlett, and Juliet/ Juliette
Oh dang it, I forgot Penny in my last comment! I think it’s cute and maybe as a nickname for Penelope (though I like a lot of nicknames for Penelope)
I like Ava (not sure how I feel about Avalynn) and Arabella!
I like Giselle, Ivy, and Keely!
I like Ana and Lily!
I like Bella, Lola, Marian, and Millie!
