Help vs. Due vs. Any Day.
I’m due to have a little boy any day and I’m still at a loss for his name. My biggest concern is girls hijacking boys’ names, I used to like Carson now I’m afraid that within another generation or two more girls will will have the name than boys, like Allison or Addison. I like Lukas(Luke), Bennett, and I used to like Zachary or Zachariah but due to a family member it’s out. All suggestions appreciated.
The Top Baby Name is...
like any? :)
I like Theo, Owen, and Samuel. Rhys is a no go because of little girls being names Reese same with Aaron and Erin. Nothing unisex. Thank you all for the suggestions.
Alison was always a girl name. It’s one of the only -son names that started out girl because it’s actually a pet form of Alice.
But I understand where you’re coming from. It’s frustrating to see all these boy names being used for girls. I’ve heard people say that there are no boy names anymore, only girl and unisex names. The more I see the more I think that might be true.
The only boy name in my family that I haven’t seen on girls is Patrick.
I also like Beau.
How about "Guy"? I highly doubt the boys name "Guy" will ever be used on a girl.
Bo is being used for girls.
I like Michael, Sebastian(Bash), Jeffery, Nicholas, and Blake. Thank you.
Henry, Gideon, and Jeremiah are all nice.
I also like Jared. thank you guys.
Why not use Bennett? I LOVE IT!
Honestly, it’s kind of a loosing battle to find a name that isn’t and won’t be used on girls. I’m speaking from experience because we used a name for our son that we’d never heard of on girls. He was a year old the first time I heard of a girl with his name. Now he’s 9 and his name is currently more common on girls than boys, which blows my mind.
The point is that no matter what you do, some celebrity can name her daughter the same name as your son or a show with a female character bearing your son’s name can get popular. Suddenly Jeremiah or Henry or Owen is "spunky" for a girl and lots of people are using it.
I’m not trying to bring you down, but it’s the way it is now. It also means that most of the boys your son will know will also share their names with girls. It’s a common thing these days and it’s getting more common every year. So if you really like Carson, go for it. He’ll be just the same as most of the other boys in his peer group.
I don’t think you have to worry about Carson. Carson is the 90th most popular boy name in the US as of 2013. The most popular girl spelling of the name is Karsyn which is the 736th most popular girl name in the US as of 2013. So it’s not an extremely popular name on girls and it’s unlikely to catch up to boys anytime soon.
I see from your post that you’re worried about the popularity of the name a few generations in the future. There’s not way to have any clue about how that will go right now. The way the gender bending trend it, Elizabeth might be a top boy name by then.
I really wish there was an edit function on this site.
I know a couple girls named Carson, so I say you take it back and name your son Carson! I have a son named Addison, and we’ve only met one other girl named Addison.
