That’s because they are. Please choose a girl name for your daughter, she’ll thank you later.

They are boy names.

Boy names, Peyton can work on both though.

They are all unisex except Emerson. I’ve seen far more girls than boys named Peyton, Rylan(usually spelled differently though),Hayden Avery, Dakota, and Sawyer. Emerson is a boy’s name though.

All of them, except maybe Rylan, are unisex names. I have heard them on both sexes. I happen to love all of these names.

Because I’ve known both boys and girls with these names, I see them as unisex:
Peyton
Sawyer
Avery
Dakota

Emerson is more girl to me - even with the "son" ending

Hayden is all boy to me.

Not a fan of Rylan on either.

Hope this helps!

All are boys’ names and unsuitable for girls.

Just because you put a boy name on a girl over a period of time still doesn’t make it a girl name. If Thomas was being used on girls for a couple of years would you say it was unisex?

Well names like Avery to me sound far more feminine than masculine. Mage won’t be teased for any of these names but you should pick a really girly middle name.

Don’t listen to the negative comments ^^^ from above. The names you like are beautiful.
I know girls named Peyton Marie, Avery Mae, Hayden Cristina, and Dakota Marylou. TWO of those people are over 20. =)

Thomas no but most unisex names were never particularly strong masculine names to begin with, that’s why certain names become unisex and traditional biblical names tend to be left alone. I wouldn’t use Emerson on a girl but the rest, I would never assume somebody were a boy upon hearing so it’s fine.

Names are culturally defined and cultures change over time.

I’d say Peyton, Avery, and Dakota are probably used more on girls than boys, especially Avery. If peoples’ reactions worry you, I would use one of those three.

Peyton-Still acceptable on both.I prefer it for a girl.I believe if it weren’t for Payton Manning this name would be all the way to the girl’s side by now.

Rylan-Boyish in my opinion.Rylie would be cute for a girl though.

Hayden-More to the male side but I guess I could get used to it on a girl mostly due to hearing it on actress Hayden Panettiere (sp?)

Sawyer-This is the one that is absolutely all boy to me.It makes me think of sawing wood obviously so I picture a burly lumberjack type of guy. I also associate it with the character from Lost. There’s nothing feminine about Sawyer at all!

Avery-This name is extremely popular for females at the moment.I would say this one has almost completely gone to the girl side like Ashley did in the 90’s.I can’t imagine a female Avery having any problems with her name.

Dakota-I personally know both a boy and a girl with this name.I feel that it suits the girl better and I know that the boy doesn’t like his name and has taken to being called Kody instead.

Emerson-I don’t mind this one on a girl.I know a lot of people have issues with the son ending but Allison has been popular for years (and now Addison too) and Emerson leads so naturally to the nickname Emmy that I think it works.

Apart from Avery and Dakota I see them all as boy’s names.

Honestly, I think any of the ones you’ve listed could work well and be beautiful on a girl.

Don’t listen to the negative comments. All the names you have listed can be used for girl names. I personally like them better for girls. I would never name my son Avery or Peyton/Payton. I totally agree that if there was no Peyton Manning, then people would not associate Peyton as a boy name. I love boy names and unisex names for girls. GL!
