I like both, but just fyi- my husband’s name is Russell, and in middle school and high they teased his as Russell the love muscle... I know silly, right? But he now goes by his middle name.

I like Russell, but I think you and your man need to compromise. Are you going to have more children? If so, then you could save the other name for when you have another son.

Every Russell I’ve ever known has gone by Russ so I wouldn’t worry about him being called Russell the love muscle. Lol!
I prefer Russell over River just because River has become waaaay too popular and he’ll probably have several other River’s in his class. That may not bother you but I tend to go for the least trendy name.:) GL

Russell is so much better!
I don’t know if we’ll have another. It’s kind of a major deal just to have managed to get pregnant with him. We weren’t supposed to be able to. So I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t have anymore beyond him.
The only real compromise I can come up with is to use River Russell or Russell River. But that still leaves the question of which should be the first name.

how about River Russell or Russell River as a double middle name and trying to decide together on a new first name that you both like?
