Baby Girl Needs a vs. Name. We need vs. Your help!

We are expecting our first child. A beautiful baby girl. We couldn’t be more thrilled. We have always agreed on a name for a little boy, but girl’s names seem to be more difficult. After months of trying to agree, we have a list of 5 names, but of course we can not decide. We are hoping you can tell us what you think of each name, your favourites and anything else you think might be helpful. The middle name will be Hannah, after my sister. Thanks! Sam and Justin

I like Broke and Dakota because they’re not overly popular but they’re cute :-)

Dakota is totally J’s pick. It’s not my favourite, but he loves it, and it is growing on me. Have any of you ever named a child a name that you were dead set against at first? I’m a teacher, so I do like the fact that I haven’t ever had a Dakota in my class. Or a Kylie.

Madeline Hannah (Madi) - I love Madeline. I think it is so sweet and sophisticated. Its a classic and will age well. Great choice. Don’t really care for the nickname Madi, especially the way you are spelling it but its okay. Overall I think this name has the best flow and is my favorite from your list

Mackenzie Hannah (Kenzie) - MacKenzie is okay but it has always sounded kind of juvenile to me. I just can’t picture a 50 year old woman named Kenzie. Its becoming dated really quickly and I don’t really care for its meaning "Son of Kenneth"

Kylie Hannah - Dislike this name greatly. Like Mackenzie I just think it sounds very juvenile and it screams born in the 2000s

Brooke Hannah - I like Brooke. Even though its very trendy I think it works well on a little girl and a grown adult but Brooke Hannah sounds a little choppy. Not terrible but not the greatest. This is my second favorite behind Madeline.

Dakota Hannah - Not a fan of Dakota. It doesn’t sound very nice with Hannah and I just don’t think it sounds very feminine.

Madeline Hannah is the only one I would consider. Your others are too dated, meaning in the last decade they’ve been popular and are not ready for a comeback. Mackenzie, as mentioned above, means "son of Kenneth" and as such is not suitable to a girl. Kylie is often seen as trashy, though in my opinion it just sounds cutesy and hard to imagine it aging well. Brooke sounds harsh and masculine to me. Dakota seems better suited to a pet and is too gender ambiguous. How about: Kayleigh Hannah or Kayley Hannah or even Katherine Hannah/Kathryn Hannah!

Madeline and Brooke are great! Mackenzie and and Kylie aren’t. Dakota is kind of so/so.

Brooke or Madeline are the only ones I would consider. Don’t care for the nickname Madi, though, regardless of spelling, and it is probably inevitable
