Evie vs. Evvie vs. Evvy

I can’t decide how to spell the nickname for Evelyn pronounced "ehv-vee." Evie looks the nicest, but it’s normally pronounced "ee-vee" and I think it would always be pronounced like that. Thoughts?

I’m not sure there is a simple answer. Any spelling will look as though it is pronounced like EE-vee, as most people pronounce it that way. It will be a matter of correcting people of the way you pronounce it. Being creative with the spelling will only make it look strange. Evie is one of the best spellings.

If its going to be a nickname for Evelyn I don’t think you need to worry about spelling. If it were going to be a full name I would be considering, but with nicknames they are barely written down and when they are people usually ask how to spell them.

I would’ve assumed Evie was Ee-vee. But Evvie/Evvy just looks odd with two V’s. Perhaps Ehvie? I don’t know, I guess Evvie would be better than having people always say Evie incorrectly.

I agree that 2 v’s look odd, I’d avoid that. I think Evy has the best chance of being pronounced the way you want.

My name is Evelyn - but i go by Evie ( ee - vee ) i personally really love Eavie, Avie or even Ehvie as a way of spelling it. I may even begin spelling it Eavie because it seems so pretty. However, for the pronunciation you want, i think Eavie , Avie or Evy are best.

My full name is Evie. It is pronounced with a short vowel (rhymes with Chevy.) Folks butcher my name all the time or think it a nickname for Evelyn. Nope, just Evie.

My daughter's name is Evelyn and she goes by ehv-vee. We spell it Evie and just correct people. They catch on fairly quickly

My daughter's name is Genevieve and we call her Eh-vie and spell that "Evvy". I don't mind that some people think the two "v's" look odd. It's unique and phonetically accurate. What did you decide?
