Serenity gmv. I like the idea of virtue names but prefer ones with virtue meanings because they are more subtle. So for example, I prefer Serena to Serenity.

Thanks I’ll play around with some virtue meaning names too. Serena is cute :)

I adore Temperance! However, did you mean Alexandra? I think Temperance Alexandra would be so sweet.

Well, I’d like to fit my husband’s father’s name in: David Alexander... Is Alexander okay as a middle name for a girl? We see Ryan as a female middle name all the time. Maybe I need to make a poll for that :P

You can use whatever you want for a middle name. A family name is certainly suitable.

Well, I think that, if you’re honoring for the opposite gender, it would work to use the opposite gender’s variation. In this case, Alexandra/Alexandria for Alexander, or Davina for David. That way, it still honors her father without being glaring, if that makes any sense. Personally, I think Temperance Davina would be lovely.

I think Alexander looks and sounds wrong for a girl because Alexandra (or even ...dria)is similar but the female version and much better for a girl imo.
I would like Serena Alexandra or Serena Davina better than those listed.

Temperance 4/10 cute but I wouldn’t choose it myself
Serenity 6/10 again cute though I prefer Serena as suggested in the previous comment.
Yes, I do prefer Serenity to Temprance

NO you can’t! Boy names are for boys and girl names are for girls it’s as simple as that and it’s a mystery to me how some people don’t seem to get that simple fact. Ridiculous.

Unique first names made ridiculous by masculine middle names.

I love Temperance! I also love, Hope, Grace and Constance! Temperance Davida would be great!

Alexandra would honor grandfather and it’s much prettier.

Suggestions-
Alexandra Divina
Alexis Divina
Divina Alexandra
Divina Alexis
Lexie Divina
Devina Lexie
Those are female versions of Alexander and David. Not fond of either of the first names.
Hope, Grace, Faith are nice names. Also Serena, as suggested.

I love the name Temperance! If you want to give your daughter the middle name Alexander or Davide go for it. My daughter’s middle name is Jayson :)
posted by guest :: 9 years ago | report
^ Jayson is a horrible middle name for a girl, as is any name that was meant for a boy.

Temperance Alexandria would be a great name.

^ She was named after her father. She goes by AJay and happens to love her name!

What’s appropriate for a man or a woman changes with time. In the French catholic tradition it was common for men to have a first name starting or ending with the name Marie (in honour of the figure whom they respected) as in Jean-Marie. To say that x combination of sounds can ONLY be used by one gender is extremely small-minded! The previous commenter who is so adamant about her strict gender specific rules needs to realize that there’s a world out there. And, you have to admit that with a middle name one has a bit more freedom since the child doesn’t have to share the name if she doesn’t want to. So cool your jets and realize that naming traditions vary from culture to culture or from family to family. Thank you!
