Opinions on vs. the name vs. Anaya?
Hi everyone! So I have recently fallen in love with this name, mainly due to the meanings of it. It is Hebrew for "God given" and "Completely free" in Sanskrit. I think it is traditionally pronounced Ah-nye-ah, but I have also heard Ah-nay-ah. I liked the Ah-nye-ah pronunciation best, but then someone pointed out that it kind of sounds like annihilate :-/ What do you think? Does it sound better pronounced Ah-nay-ah?

I like it, and prefer the uh-nye-uh pronounciation, probably due to how much I love Anais

Thanks for your comment :) I like that spelling as well. Good suggestion. I’m glad you thought that it’s kind of an odd jump to annihilate. That is kind of what I thought too. Plus I like the nick name Nia. Thanks!

I like the pronunciation that you like. I’ve never heard anyone say it the other way, though I suppose you could. Honestly, until you mentioned it, I didn’t think about Anaya/annihilate. It’s a pretty name.

I would not have thought of annihilate, unless maybe the last name started with L- or Lay- ...and maybe not even then.

I would not have have thought "annihilate" and I would have pronounced it ah-nye-ah, which is how I think most people would pronounce it. It’s a little like Maya which would have the I sound.

It does immediately make me think of the word annihilate, but it sounds really odd to be said like Uh-nay-uh. I vote no.

I would probably spell it Anaia, but that’s just because I like the ’aia’ spellings.
