Carlyn vs. Too Trendy? vs. Unique & Uncommon?

Is Carlyn a trendy name? I’ve never met or heard of anyone named Carlyn and a lot of people are telling me it’s too trendy. Older brothers are Jonathan Wyatt(4) and Gage Quentin(16 months). How well does Carlyn fit in with Jonathan and Gage? Thanks! ~Cori and Alex

I think it is trendy b/c of lyn. It is trendy right now to smash lyn on to names or add lyn to names. I like different names but I am not a fan of Carlyn. Maybe Carrington or Kerrigan. nn carrie/kerri

I think its trendy as well and doesn’t quite fit. It looks like a typo of Carolyn. Carolyn however is quite pretty and Carrie, Carly or Cara would be a great nn!

It’s not common, but it has a trendy sound. Names ending in -lyn are definitely trendy as well as unisex sounding names. It’s not awful and she could go by Carly, which is common. I would personally use just Carly if it was me but Carlyn isn’t the worst ever or anything.

I’d just use Carlene and be done with it. Carlyn definitely is trendy, and looks sorely out of place next to your boys’ names. Carlene would fit infinitely better.

We really don’t like Carly so, she would constantly go by Carlyn. ~Cori and Alex

We also don’t like Carolyn. I think it’s too dated and my husband just doesn’t think it fits with Jonathan and Gage. And Carlene just isn’t very pretty to us either ~Cori and Alex

Very trendy (in a bad way.)

I love Carlyn. Was planning on using it as a girl middle name to honor my mother- Karen Lynn. I think anything that ends in lyn, Lynn, Lin is going to be seen as trendy though.

Maybe Carolina?

Yes, I think it’s very trendy as like others have said it sounds quite made up and follows the trend of adding a -lyn on to the end of random names. I would try and find something else to be honest. Also, even if you don’t like Carly I would have thought it is quite likely she would end up going by that once she got older and could make her own decision. I too much prefer Caroline or Carolyn.

I do think Carlyn is very trendy. Not in the sense that it’s popular, but that it’s on trend with popular names, which staking a random sound and attaching a "lyn" or "ley" to end of it. I don’t think it’s an attractive name. I think it fits in with Gage, as that is also a more modern name, but Jonathan seems a bit too traditional with the other two.
