Bernice vs. too dated vs. ok

I found out I was pregnant not long after my grandmother passed away and I wanted to honor her in my daughter’s name. Her full name was Jessie Bernice. I have a step-sister and a cousin named Jessica so that is out.

Its too dated for a fn IMO. Maybe as a mn or you could use Janice as a fn?

It will fit right in with the little girls named Hazel and Olive and Helen. Older names are coming back.

Did your grandmother like her name? Mine had an old name too (Ada) and my brother wanted to honor her however she never liked her name so he went with Adalyn. Maybe try variations of Bernice to "update" it a bit. Best of luck!

We never really discussed her middle name. I know she was named Jessie after her grandfather - Jesse Neil

How about Berenice beh-rehn-ees? It sounds prettier and a bit more modern to me. You could always use the nicknames Bay or Wren for it. Or Bernadette or Bernadine?

I didn’t know Nixie was a nickname for Bernice (though I just looked it up after reading this poll). Nixie is so cute. I might consider the name Bernice just for the nickname, though I don’t think my hubby would go for it.

I vote that Bernice is okay.

If we do go with Bernice what would you suggest as a mn? I tend to like classic feminine names more than trendy/popular/Hollywood names.
