Ella-Jean Walker vs. Carla-Jean Walker vs. Read Below

I’m expecting my second child. She will be my last so I am trying to give her a Mae that has a meaning for me. Her middle name will be Walker. However, I am stuck on her first name. I will not use the hyphens as they are listed above but she will have two first names. I have one concern though. Can Ella be used to honor someone named Helen? Thanks, Anna

It’s a bit of a stretch, I think. You’d have to assume that Ella is short for Eleanor, which come from the same root name as Helen.

I would not think it was for someone named Helen, I would think Eleanor. I prefer Carla Jean

Are there any other names that could honor Helen? I can’t use Ellen, Helena or Evelyn but if there’s anything else please let me know. Thanks, Anna

There are a lot of names with the same root. Elaine or Elaina, for instance.

Ella and Helen are variations of the same name and mean the same thing: ’light’. On my father’s side there were several females named after the same person: Ellen, Helen, Ella, Eileen. Ellen was used the most and one of my great-aunts named Ellen was always called Nell.
