Would vs. Davis vs. be ok??

I just wanted to see what you all think of using Davis as a middle name for our daughter. She is our last child. 100% :( Anyway, if she had been a boy, it would have really meant a huge amount to us to honour my grandfather with our sons name but obviously expecting a little girl, we now can do that. I know that it used to be the done thing to give a daughter the mothers maiden name as a middle name so I thought I might give her my grandfathers last name as a middle name...is it OK? Or is Davis too masculine even for that?

Could you give her his initials?

Depending on the first and last names but i think it sounds good! Lots of girls get boys names these days like billie etc

Why not try something similar to Davis, but in feminine form? Like "Davina"?

Not really feeling Davina. His initials were ED. It would work but we already have a son with an E first name and don’t really want to repeat. What do you think, is that our best option?

You could make it Avis or Mavis, which are legit female names. Or go with Dava or Davita or Daveney.

Using a female form of a male names honors the man you’re trying to honor. You don’t have to give her a male name in order to do that. That’s why so many name have both male and female forms. Lots of people throughout history have wanted to honor an opposite gender family member.

It’s completely fine since it’s a middle name. I know a lot of girls with masculine family names as middle names.

Thank you for all the opinions. It seems fairly mixed.

I agree that it would be completely fine as a mn.

I think it would even be fine as a first name for a girl. As a middle, I love these combos: Elodie Davis, Everly Davis, Emilee Davis, Evelyn Davis.

It would be better to give her a feminine form. It’s better to acknowledge a child’s gender imo. Giving a her a boy name kind of seems like the parents wish they’d had a boy.

^ why? You would probably say the same thing if someone named their son Ashley, even though that IS technically a "boy name". Not to mention the fact that she stated time and time again she wants to use it as a middle name. Seriously, trying to imply that parents are going to do some kind of irreversible damage to their child by giving them a NAME is so ridiculous it is almost comical. I know girls named Logan, Austin, Asher.. All of them are mothers and working women. And as far as I know, none of them have emotional problems with their parents over a name.

I really like Davis as a middle name. It’s important to you and that’s all that matters. Charlotte Davis would be very pretty.

I think it would be perfectly fine as a middle, even as a double first name. I know a girl Davis Anne who goes by both. Use it somehow, it sounds like you’ll regret it if you don’t!

Thank you so much for your help and support! I really like some of the ideas you have given me. I will do a poll again at a later time.

I think it’s great as a middle name, and pairs nicely with so many beautiful girls names. If her first name is feminine it will be a nice contrast.

I think it’s fine as a middle name! Nothing wrong with it at all. My middle name is Blake and I’ve never had any problems with it, being a girl.
