Caro-lee-na if it’s a name, Caro-line-a if it’s the state.

"Caro-leen-a" is the very legitimate Hispanic pronunciation. I think it’s lovely and could easily adapt to that pronunciation if that’s the one you want. But you’ll probably get "Caro-line-a" most of the time if you are in the US.

We are pronouncing her name as caro-line-a and it is a relief to see that pronunciation having more votes!

I live in a very diverse area. All the Carolina’s I’ve known are Latino and pronounce it Caro-LEEN-ah. Only one Carolina I met pronounces it Caro-LINE-ah as an Americanization, and I am 99 percent sure she’s only half Hispanic.

It all depends on where you live. If you live in a diverse area, use Caro-LEEN-a, because most people will pronounce it that way. If you do not, people will say Caro-LINE-ah, so in that case you use that.

I prefer Caro-LINE-ah, but I’ve seen it both ways.

Caro-lee-na definitely. The only person I know with this name pronounces it that way and if I ever saw it written down, that’s the pronunciation I’d use.

It makes sense, since all the other LINE/LINA names are pronounced LEEN/A (Emmeline, Adeline, Rosaline, Evangeline, Angeline, Catalina, Charline, Joline, Ottoline) so, really, which is the odd man out?

So my opinion is futile but do the states pronounce it like Caro-lee-na?! NO! Pronounce it like the state!

Caro-line-uh. Never even thought/heard of Caro-leen-uh. Caro-line-uh is much prettier & it’s spelled exactly how it will be pronounced.
