Hi all,
I need some boy or girl names that have a similar feel as Elijah and Heath. So far I like boy names like Alan, James, Robert, and found the name Alaric which may be my favorite. and girl names like Elena, Aileen, Rose, Caroline, and Josephine.. But I’m worried my taste in little girl names sounds pretentious and my boy names sound too plain and don’t flow right with Heath and Elijah. Please help me clear up this naming style funk. Thanks!

Elijah and Heath are very different from each other, so I wouldn’t try too hard to match. From your lists I like Alaric and Elena best. Other suggestions: Jasper for a boy and Darcy for a girl.

I like Alaric for a boy. I agree with you that your girl names are certainly do not have the same ’feel’ to them as your current son’s names; however, I do not believe they sound pretentious. For some reason the name Jade keeps popping into my mind.

Maybe this is part of my naming problem, but I thought Heath and Elijah were very similar in style. How would you say they differ?

Elijah is very popular and biblical, whereas Heath is neither, and much shorter. I think James goes with Elijah, and Robert and Alan go with Heath—they’re all "older" names. I wouldn’t worry about style; if Alaric is what you like (and I think it’s a really cool name), then go with Alaric! For girls, I adore Rose.
