Luke Avery vs. Luke Philip
Both are after somebody. Avery is a family name that my mom really wants me to use on one of my children and Luke might be my last chance. Philip is after someone I loved deeply who is now deceased. Avery is a name that started with my granddad who I care for but who’s kind of an @$$. I want to use it to make my mom happy for multiple reasons, but I want to honor Phil as well. Also I’m afraid Avery is being too taken over by girls. What should I do? BTW Avery Philip and Philip Avery are not an option.

I like Philip better with Luke. I don’t like Avery for a boy, but I think it’s very disrespectful and rude to call your granddad an "@$$

Do what makes you happy, not what meshes your mom happy. This is your child, not hers. I’d rather name my child after someone I cared for rather than someone my mom wanted me to name my child after, especially if he’s not that special to you. Go with Luke Philip!

I’m sorry, I know it is and I hate myself for saying that about him. Even though I love him, he’s just kind of a selfish, occasionally hateful old dude who puts my uncle on a pedistal, but spits on my mom and makes her feel inferior and unloved. Even though SHE’S the one always taking care of him. That’s why I’m a little turned off to Avery.

I would not use a name that has a negative connotation to it. Also, it is not your mother’s child, it’s yours. She will love your son whatever his name is. I would honor your departed friend and then have the story to tell your son where he got his name. It would be better to have it after a great friend than someone you dislike sometimes. If you are really battling with this go with Luke Avery Philip or Luke Philip Avery.
