Merle/Merl vs. ??
Hi there, we’re hoping to honour my Dad in our baby’s name and his name was Walter Merlin! I can’t imagine a little Walter so we’re hoping to use his middle name. If it’s a girl, she’ll be Melina, but for a boy, is Merlin too ’much’? What do you think of just Merl? Other ideas welcome!

I think Merlin is too much for a boy. I just think of a wizard or something. However I think Walter is an adorable name

Walter with nn Walt is my favorite. Not fond of Merlin or Merl. Melina is a pretty name.

Walter’s okay, however very uncommon. You could use Walter as a middle name and pick the first name yourself.

Merle is the French word for a blackbird. It’s very chic on a girl, like Merle Oberon, the Old Hollywood actress. But it’s probably most associated these days with country star Merle Haggard, a man. I can see Merle on a boy quite nicely. If you’re interested, there’s Merula for a girl, from Latin merulus, meaning blackbird. But I love Melina more. Good luck! :0)
