Bellamy Ryan vs. Harper Allen vs. Kendall Ross

We posted this poll yesterday and ended up with a three way tie. This is for a boy, we are aware that some of these names are used for girls these days, but all of them are traditionally masculine and are still at least considered unisex. Which name is best for our son?

The Top Baby Name is...

Bellamy Ryan

41%

Harper Allen

29%

Kendall Ross

29%

I really like Bellamy for a boy. I think Bellamy Ryan has a really nice ring to it as well!

I chose Harper Allen but I don’t dislike any of them at all. Bellamy Ryan almost got my vote but I’m partial to Harper.

Go ahead and add it to your list poster 2! I know I’d much rather meet boys with these names than girls! Thank you posters 1 and 3 as well!

I love Bellamy Ryan. Such a nice-sounding name. I would discourage you from using Harper even though I agree that as a traditional surname it is unisex (and sounds masculine imo), simply because it has been so over-the-top popular for girls. I’m just getting tired of hearing it.

I like Bellamy Ryan but I voted for Harper Allen. I want to see Harper go back to the boys for once.

They’re all surnames, so I dislike them for both girl or boy.

Thank you posters 5,6, and 7! All of your votes and comments are very helpful!

Out of your names, I like Bellamy Ryan the best. It has an amazing flow and is very handsome. Plus, Bellamy is the least common name on your list for both genders, which I think gives it that special touch!

I really want to name my son Ashley, which is traditionally a male name, but now has been almost completely used as a female name. I just love it and I think it suits a boy better than a girl, and while my husband likes it too, we’re worried about confusion, teasing, and people saying "Why did you give your son a girls name?". What are your plans to combat those situations? Thanks, in advance, for your reply!

Not a fan of any of them for a boy. The argument that they are traditionally boy names will be little comfort to your child if he is picked on. I would use Kendall because it still rates in the top 1000 for boys and isn’t as popular on girls as Harper is.

LOVE Bellamy! Bellamy Ryan is very handsome, but I also think Bellamy Ross would be wonderful. Either way, great names! Best wishes and God bless! :>

So let me get this straight. People think it is wrong to name a boy a name that is traditionally for a boy since it is used on girls, but giving a girl a boy’s name is completely acceptable? Seriously? These are all strong, masculine names!

It drives me crazy when people say your kid is going to be picked on based on the name you give them. I know a boy named Harper, he was never teased. I know a girl named Ryan and she had no problems. Everyone makes a big deal out of nothing, most kids say "hi, what’s your name?" "Oh, I’m Bellamy" then they go off and play. Once the kids name has been established within the family and with friends it’s fine and I would hope in the adult workforce people would be mature enough to handle it as well. I hear fuss about names causing bullying, but I’ve never heard an actual story in which it happens.
