Caroline and Carolyn are totally different names. Carolyn isn’t the "traditional spelling" of Caroline. They have two totally different sounds. I much prefer Caroline to Carolyn. Carolyn is a bit old fashioned where Caroline is more modern but not trendy.

I like Carolyn best because you could call her Carly for short. GL

You can use Carly as a nickname for either one. I prefer Caroline because it’s not as old fashioned and the -lyn endings are very trendy right now. Even if it is on a vintage name.

I love Carolyn! You don’t hear it as often as Caroline, though neither are extremely popular at the moment.
