Helen Marie vs. Elena Marie

We made a poll the other day and these were the top two. We eliminated Helene Marie. We want to name our daughter after my late grandmother, Helen, but we can’t decide if we want to use Helen or a variation, Elena(ee-LAY-nah). Middle name is set to be Marie. Feel free to comment. Thanks for all the help so far and for the help that may come from this poll! Allie, Kendall, Harper Allen, Mary Katharine, and baby girl

I think Elena is a very pretty name. And Marie fits perfect with it. Congratulations to you :)

I think Elena Marie sounds best together and I think it’s more modern. I feel like Helen is a little dated. I have always loved the name Elena.

We used Elin as a variant of Helen. I like both names, but think Helen sounds sweet! For me, it would come down to your last name!

Both are lovely, so you can’t go wrong. But I’d love to meet a little girl named Helen today. And it more directly honors your grandmother.

I adore the name Helen, so that is the choice I made. But as several mentioned in your other poll, the name Elena is NOT pronounced ee-LAY-nah. To get that pronunciation, you’re almost going to have to spell it phonetically: Eelayna

Elena is gorgeous! Elena is pronounced ee-LAY-nuh, or uh-LAY-nuh, depending on how lazy you get with pronunciation. It’s not uh-LEH-nuh or anything.

Helen Marie still gmv. Simple, timeless and rare. Imagine bringing little Helen to school for the first day. Nary a Helen in sight but yours. Good luck! :0)

Thank you posters 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9! We appreciate your feedback!
@poster 8 where we live everyone says ee-LAY-nah so we would not need to change the spelling, but again, thank you for your concern.
