Big vs. Dilemma

My grandma’s name is Lorraine Maxine. She practically raised me and helped me through rough times. I always thought I would name my first child Maxwell or Maxine. Well, 2 years ago I got married and I am now pregnant. We were talking about names and I was heartbroken by my husbands response to these names. He dated a girl named Maxie for about a year and in his words "she was a psycho!" So now what? I love the name so much! He’s not as concerned if its a boy as long as his nickname is Max (never Maxie.) But I’m at a total loss for a girl as I don’t really like Lorraine for a first name. Please help with some suggestions. Any girl names with "Max" in it somewhere?

How about Lauren?

You could use Lorena or you could use Raine (either as a middle name if you didn’t love them but still wanted that connection).

Lora Mae or Lauren Mae

What if you did similar meanings? Maxine means noble, and so does Ada. Lorraine means ruler, and Sadie means princess...so something like Ada Sadie? You could look some things up and find names you like with the same meaning as Maxine Lorraine

If you use the letters in Lorraine and switch them around you can get "Nora"...which is very pretty. Nora Maxine?

Lori Anne would be a good alternative.

Your husband would probably grow to associate the name with your daughter but he shouldn’t have to. He makes a good point. What about
Lori
Raine
Raina
Regina (Rayne is nn for Regina)
Marion (inspired by combining the two names)
Marin
Maceline (nn Macie, close to Maxie)
Or maybe use Maxine as the middle name
Or use ANY two names that make initials
LM
I understand but if he’s willing to keep the boy name, try to find a compromise on the girl...or you may need to let it go, I’m sure Mis Lorraine would understand

I was thinking Piper as a middle name but I could use it as her fn. Piper Raine or Piper Lauren or Piper Maxine. DH might be ok with Maxine as middle name. Poster

Maybe Maximilliana nn Mimi or Millie or Liana?

Maxine and Maxie are two different names. If you can’t agree on one, go for a totally different name. Your grandmother won’t be offended. She’ll just be so happy to have a great grandchild.
