I think it’s okay to do for a girl since she’ll likely take her husbands last name but I wouldn’t do it for a boy.

My late father-in-law had no middle name, so he was automatically issued the middle initial "N" by the military when he was in World War II. The "N" stood for "none." Not sure if that would happen today in a civilian setting.

My great-grandmother and my aunt didn’t have middle names, so they made up with their own. My aunt even had her’s put on her driver’s license, somehow. Like everyone else said it’s really a personal choice.

JK Rowling doesn’t have a middle name. She took the K from her grandmothers name
