Honouring vs. Annabelle with vs. Isabelle?

My mum’s name was Annabelle Grace. We were very close but tragically she passed away two years ago. I am about to have a baby daughter and I would like to honour my mother in her name. I considered using Annabelle, but I would kind of like to keep Annabelle as my mum’s name, and see Annabelle linked to only my mum not my daughter, Annabelle to just be my mum’s name, if that makes sense. This led me to Isabelle. I love it and it has a subtle link to my beloved mother. But does it honour an Annabelle to use Isabelle? Are they similar enough to honour or do you see them as two completely separate names? What do you think of Isabelle? Thank you so much! Lara.

You could use Annabelle as a middle name. My mother wanted me to name our baby after my late grandmother but I didn’t want to have to say her name that much every day ! Too sad

I think it works well :)
Other options could be Arabelle/Arabella, Annalise, Annika, Anya but Isabelle is nice!

Isabelle is an absolutely beautiful name, and it DEFINITELY honours Annabelle. They are, essentially, the same name apart from the first syllable; they both go to a-belle. Very similar in spelling, length, feel, sound etc etc. They are easily linked. So, so sorry to hear about the loss of Annabelle by the way, and what you said about wanting to keep Annabelle as your mum’s name makes perfect sense – I would feel the same.
I LOVE Isabelle. My daughter was very nearly an Isabelle, but my husband and I couldn’t settle on a spelling :( it’s timeless, elegant, feminine and effortlessly gorgeous. Stunning.
Best of luck, and your daughter will love the subtle tie to her lovely grandmother :)

The name doesn’t have to be exact to honor someone you love. Think of it as your mom’s name inspiring a name for your daughter. Isabelle would definitely do that. If you wanted to, she could be Isabelle Anna and then you would have both parts of your mom’s name in your daughter’s name.

Any name that has Belle or Ann(a) in it would work well to honor her
Bellamy Anne is my personal favorite

Don’t love Isabelle because of its popularity.

IMO, it doesn’t honour an Annabelle to use Isabelle - I see them as two completely separate names. They are similar, but not ’linked’.
If you want to honour Annabelle, you would have to call your daughter Anna, or some other variation like Annabeth, Annalise etc. My opinions obviously :)
If I was in your position, I would give the middle name Annabelle to my daughter. Ideas: My niece’s name is Charlotte Annabelle, and I’ve always loved it. Sophie Annabelle is also really pretty. Edith Annabelle, Alice Annabelle, Lily Annabelle, Dawn Annabelle, Caitlin Annabelle, and Jasmine Annabelle are all lovely.
Or you could give the middle name Grace to your baby. It would honour your mother and give them something to truly share.
I hope this helps :)

I wouldn’t immediately make the connection, but I agree it makes sense to not use the exact name. We named our daughter Susanna after my mom Susan, for example. We had originally been planning on using Susan (or my MIL’s name) for a middle name. I think if you are using exactly Annabelle, I’d put it in the MN slot, and if using as a first name, change it up a little. Isabelle is close enough, but another Anna version name might be even closer. But as long as it’s obvious to you and your family, it’s fine.
