Mia Ami vs. Mia Lauren vs. Ami Charlotte

Repost from yesterday. So, yesterday, we were told this is a cheesy idea, which is fine. Just wanted some additional perspective. My husband and his family have a deep relationship with the University of Miami. We have a daughter named Mia Lauren, and would like to name the second child Ami Charlotte. Yes, that would almost spell Miami. Yes, they would be themed names. Honestly, I think the think is somewhat subtle. I mean, people name their children after flowers- the whole family, or even movies- Katniss and Primrose for example, and even cars! Is using two names we happen to love so bad? Ami is a variant of Amy, and means beloved. So, go ahead, give me the truth.....

Is Ami pronounced like Amy or the end of Miami? I think they’re different enough to work as sisters though :)

We can’t use Mia Charlotte, our first daughter is Mia Lauren. Ami would be Amy!

I would spell it Amy. The main reason being that your child wouldn’t have to correct people about spelling and pronunciation. It still gives you the subtle theme without burdening your child with no I spell it like this.

I think Ami works fine.

We considered that, but I think it loses some of the meaning of the theme when spelled Amy.

I voted for Ami Charlotte. However, her first name should be spelled Amy or Aimee. Ami looks incomplete.

I wouldn’t have made the connection to Miami. I think that it is a little odd that they share the same letters though. That is a little to cutesy for me but I like individuality.

I think it would be very tacky to have both kids named after the same state. Having one named after it should be good enough. Having two would be too much in my opinion. I’ve met people who named all their daughters after different kids of flowers. That’s totally different than having two kids named after the exact same state. At least with flowers, the names come from different things rather than the same thing, people don’t name both of their daughter’s Lily. Pick something else to name this one after. Maybe something that your family has a deep relationship to. Also, if you decide to have another child, it’s going to be extremely hard to find a 3rd name to fit the theme. Then the 3rd child might feel left out because his/her name doesn’t have as much meaning to you as it’s sister’s names do. Again, just pick something else to name this little one after.

Thank you for your thoughts. This will be our last child, and we happen to love the names. Two family members have names than end/start with AMI, and we think it is a perfect fit!
