I’m from the UK, my name is Caroline. I only once had a problem with it being said ’lin’ not ’line’ and it really wasn’t a big deal. Other than one person when I was 15, everyone has said Caro’line’.

I’m from the Pacific Northwest and here both spellings are usually pronounced "lin" -- same goes for Madeline/Madelyn (would be pronounced the same here). I think Caroline is also much less popular here than in other areas of the country. However, if I saw it in print I’d be tempted to say "line" because I *know* that is the correct pronunciation.
