No, in both cases. Would you consider Gillian?

Gentry is a word meaning "the landed class." You hear it with words like "proletariat" and "bourgeoisie." So Gentry is a non-starter for me.

Giles is very much a boy’s name. Very old school British (a plus in my book), and very masculine. It’s from Aegidius / Egidius, meaning "goat." I love the feminine form Egidia, who was a queen of Scotland way back. But it’s definitely an acquired taste.

I love the suggestion of Gillian. It’s a variant of Julius / Julian / Julianne. :0)

Gentry is passable, but I wouldn’t use it on any gender based on its general meaning of ’the ruling classes that don’t care about the poor/needy who tax lots’ - ever heard the phrase ’landed gentry’ it’s about people coming to take over land and screwing over the little people.

Giles is 100% boy. A stuffy preppy boarding school boy at that. Not at all attractive on a girl (or a boy really).

Giles is all boy.
Gentry - not for a girl’s first name, but ok as middle name signifying a surname
