Too Girly vs. For Boy

Hi guys, I’m almost 8 months pregnant with my first baby, a boy, and I am over the moon excited. One problem though is deciding on his name. I love love love the name Sasha for a boy. I think it’s unique and not too feminine sounding at all. Most people I talk to, since I’m from the U.S. think it should be exclusively a female name. What is your opinion? Is Sasha OK for a boy? Would it be better if I used Alexander and Sasha as nn?

I know an adult Sasha, he was fine. I don’t think it’s too girly, but you will have to decide for you and your child how much you care if other people do.

My sons name is Sasha. It’s a good for a boy because Sasha is not a popular girls name. He just turned 7 and hasn’t had any trouble with his name. I would give him a masculine name though.

I think Sasha is just fine for a boy! It isn’t a female specific name. Girls are being named James, Wyatt, Parker, etc. so why isn’t Sasha still acceptable for blys? Who cares if it more popular on girls, it is an actual UNISEX name. It’s no different than naming him Harper or Avery! Sasha is just fine for a boy, if you love it then use it!

I know a male Sasha! I think it’s fine for a boy - it doesn’t sound too feminine and as unisex names are in, I don’t see what the problem is!

If I heard it, I would think girl. But I think it is okay for a boy. If you have doubts you could name him Alexander and call him Sasha as a nickname. It also gives him more options if he doesn’t like Sasha.

Oh please, it’s not feminine! It has a soft sound, yes, but so do other male names like Jasper, Arthur, Asher, Sean, Seth, Sebastian, Ezra, Elijah, Vincent, Austin, etc. Having a soft sound does not equal female. I have a cousin named Sascha and he’s never had any issues with his name. He’s American and is in his twenties. I wouldn’t go with Alexander nn Sasha because you can’t co trip what other people call him and they would probably call him Alex. That’s probably why people are suggesting it, honestly. Just call him Sasha if that’s what you love. You could always choose to spell it Sascha (German) or Sacha (French) to give it a more "masculine" appearance.

Yes, it would be better to name him Alexander, nn Sasha. FYI, it’s ranked #542 for girls and it not ranked at all for US boys.

What I say is name him Alexander, call him Sasha, and then if he doesn’t like it he can go by something else but you get to call him Sasha is his cute, squishy baby years.
