Galahad/Lancelot vs. Ebenezer/Ichabod vs. Charlemagne/Hannibal

Are any of these names usable in real life either as first or middle names? Are the names too strongly connected to the historical, mythological or literary characters who bore them? Would they cause embarrassment or ridicule for a boy growing up? Is there one that would be fine to use? I’m looking for some honest opinions but please don’t be rude while expressing them. Thanks.

Hannibal is the only one I’d say as there are many people with this name. My main concern is if you use it as a first name, your child will get the "Hannibal the Cannibal" reference thrown at him.

I personally would use Ebenezer, Ichabod, and Hannibal. I’d prefer Ebenezer nn Eben and Ichabod nn Ike/Ika as first names and Hannibal as a middle name but Hannibal Buress pulls it off just fine as a first name lol GL be confident in your taste. Can’t please everybody.

Lancelot or Ichabod for me.

I agree with the first poster - I think the ties with these names are a little too strong. Use them as inspiration, though!

What about:
Percival
Bartholomew
Tristan
Hector
Solomon
Isaac

I like you names there unique.

I think Tristan is a fantastic suggestions. I also believe there are many other names that fit what you are looking for but are unique enough where people aren’t going to be able to make those associations unless you mention it. If you’d like some others, here are a few:

Literary:
Dorian
Holden

Historical:
Cesar
Stonewall

Mythological:
Ajax
Davy
Merlin

I’d rather be named Ebenezer than Merlin any day lol js

No these are not.

I only suggested it since not everyone is going to make the connection to Merlin the Magician or even Malcolm Merlyn if they’re an Arrow fan. Ebenezer Scrooge is such an iconic character and known by nearly everyone. I could just see the kid around Christmas time. "Stop being such a scrooge!"

I did not know Ebenezer was from Scrooge. I knew it as the Morpheus’s ship from the Matrix lol I hardly think anyone would think of either example beyond us name obsessed people. Ha.

They are awful. Only possibility is Lance but not Lancelot.

I like Ebenezer and Ichabod.

I feel like Ichabod would work and Lancelot too, especially with the nn Lance. The rest would probably garner more negative attention. Good luck!

Love Hannibal, always have. I think of that crazy Carthaginian general taking elephants over 4he flipping Alps. Wow. Also, Harry Truman was from Hannibal, Mo.

And then that stupid movie. Still live it though. Hannibal Joseph, Hannibal Frederick, Hannibal John? Good luck! :0)
