I have met a boy named Brook but he was really bad guy, so it ruins the name for a boy. Brooks is a cool sounding name that seems very sophisticated.

Brooke or Brook are more commonly used for a female now. Brookes has a contemporary edge to it that maculates the name. I love it.

Brook would be ok for a boy if you use a really boyish middle name. Maybe Brook Ryan.
