pernell vs. pernell

what do you think about the name pernell for a boy? There is an old actor named pernell roberts. I looked up his name and all that i found out about it was that it was pronounced the same but spelled different than girl names. Do you know anything about the name?? Oh, and does it sound to cheesey?

I immediately thing of the show Trapper John, MD, which he was on, lol. Not my style either but it doesn’t sound cheesy to me.
