I have a question vs. ??

If we name our daughter Ariel pronounced (Are-ee-el) can we call her Aria (Are-ee-ah) or not? We are so torn between both names that I thought maybe we could use both depending on what she and we wanted. We also like Ari as a nick name for both. Thank you so much Nicole and Whyatt

yea if you like Ariel you can use Aria or Ari...so either one she could go by and you might be suprised when her personality starts comming through you might change the nn all together my son is Thachary Alexander Duncan we were planning on calling him TAD but once he was born we started calling BuhBuh

Sure, you can call her whatever you like.

You could also do Ariella "Aria" and I think Ari is adorable and is what I probably would have called my daughter if we had named her Aurelia.

I think Ariel nn Ari is best...to be totally honest Are-ee-ah instantly makes me think Pepto Bismol symptom...Sorry JMO.

I think it’s a bit confusing, but both are pretty names. I personally like Ariel the best. (Aria has always reminded me of urea, that substance in urine) I don’t think the nn Aria is bad, but Ari seems to fit Ariel better, in my opinion.

Aria is beautiful and long lasting. Ariel is cute for a little girl but won’t age well at all, no offense. Ariella on the other hand is prettier and better than Ariel, but I still like Aria the best. I don’t think Aria would be a fitting nn for Ariel because they have the same # of syllables but sound really different. Aria as a nn for Ariella would be better because it shortens is as nn are supposed to do. Ari is such a cute nn though! Definitely Aria!

Ari doesn’t really fit the name Ariel b/c Ariel starts with the "a" sound like in air, but Ari starts with the "a" sound from are. Ari would be a much better nn for the much cuter name Aria.

you might want to think long and hard, so as not to regret your decision, as I did after I named my child and changed her name, just dont want anyone to go through what I did. Pick a name you realy love and use it, not one that is good because not popular.

Yes, I think you can say Aria for short. Ariel is more formal and is beautiful. I think Ariella might be better to use Aria as a nn.

Ariel is mostly pronounced Ar-E-Elle, not Air-e-elle like the mermaid. More like how the crab pronounced it.
