Use Nathan vs. Don’t Use Nathan

I love the name Nathan for my son and this is the only name I have wanted to use for him. My problem is that my sister-in-law (who was recently married but not yet pregnant ) will use the name Athan if she ever has a son (named after her father). Even if we use the name Nathan she will definitely still use the name Athan. Should I pass on the boy name that I absolutely love in case he someday has a cousin with a very similar name, or take my chances and stick with the name I love? And yes, we are a very close family and the kids will be together all the time. We even have the same circle of friends.

Yes he’s your child name him what you want. If you love that name use it because if you name him something else you’ll say I wish I would have named him Nathan because I loved that name. It may be a regret not using it.

Go for it! What if your sister-in-law has all girls..then you will regret not naming him the name you love. His nn can be Nate, which wouldn’t cause confusion if he was to ever have a boy cousin.

I agree with pp. Plus, there is no guarantees that your sis in law will ever have a son, then you would have past on your favorite name for no reason!

Definitely use the name you love! Like what has been said before, what if she has all girls? You can’t base your child’s name on what other people think or plan. I’m working on telling myself the same thing :) Use Nathan!

Use it for sure! Its such a great name and who cares if he ends up having a cousin with a similar name I know cousins who have the same exact name. Dont give up on the name you love you are the one having the baby right now and she is not!

use it because you love it! if i have a son im naming him Nathan! also if it gets too confusing you can always call him Nate for short, which i love!
