Yes vs. No

Do you associate certian names with certian people? For instance, my husband really likes the name Kevin, but growing up I knew a boy named Kevin who was really weird and strange, and everytime I hear it, I can only think of him. Does this happen with anyone else? Would you ever not use a name because you once knew someone, who wasn’t that great, with that name? Thanks a lot, Bridget.

I do do that sometimes. You shouyldn’t use the name if it’s gunna bug you every time you call out to your child. And yeah, my hubby wanted a name for our next coming child that made me think of a bully I had at school when I was young. Would you like name suggestions? If so, here’s a small list to start you out:
Cody
Bennett
Calvin
William/Liam
Joshua
James

I definitely do that. I even try to steer people away from those names so they don’t have bad luck. But I usually meet a bunch of different people with the same name that have something wrong with them. I don’t like passing judgement on just 1 person, unless they’re really awful.

If thinking of the name always made me think about a person I didn’t like or a bad experience, I don’t think I could use it. It would have to be pretty bad though.

So funny that you made this post, because I’ve been wondering the same thing and have been contiplating starting this topic myself.

Yes I def. associate certain names with certain people.

It’s even funnier, that you mentioned Kevin, every Kevin I know is strange too!

Davids = Bull sh*tters
Scotts = Bad news
Bryans = trouble makers
Aarons = athletic
Dougs = not very smart
Nomans = strange
Pams = fake
Melissas = assertive
Lisas = loud
Nicoles = popular
Allisons = sweet

I hope this hasn’t offended anyone. Sorry in advance if it has.

Yes I do. For example, I LOVE the name Savanna, and it would go great with our last name...but in 9th grade I got picked on, almost daily, but a girl named Savanna and that ruined it for me. This was almost 10 years ago, and I’m certainly over it lol, but I just can’t see naming my sweet innocent baby the same name as someone who tortured me! haha....so I definitely know what you mean!

I’ve done that a lot!
How about the name Cavan or Kavan? It’s Irish along with Kevin.

My oldest daughter is named after my husband’s aunt, who was someone I heartily disliked. Guess what? I rarely think of her - that name is now my daughter’s name, and I have good feelings about the name.
Seriously, unless you live in a really tiny town with about 10 people in it, you’re always going to have known someone less than wonderful with just about any name you can think of. You forget about those people and the name becomes your child.
