Trek vs. Yes vs. No

I didn’t get a lot of feedback the first time, so here it goes again. My husband and I can never agree on a boy name. I said this one day on a whim and he said, "you know what? I think its cool". The reason we like it is three fold. 1)We are huge Star Trek fans. 2)A trek is a journey, and we have been on a long journey to have our first child. 3)Our son is going to have a long trek of his own through life. We thought all of these reasons really made the name special to us. But do others think it is a special unique name, or just something that is too odd to name a child? Please vote yes or no. Thank you!

Hmm..I understand your reasons for wanting to use it, but I would probably use it as a mn. Maybe you could pick a name which has a similar meaning to "trek" or "journey". GL!

Go with it as a middle name. It’s odd and he’ll get a lot of "Trekkie" nonsense. I understand that you like it but he may not, especially since it’s his name and possibly the object of his teasing. He has to live with it his entire life. Can you imagine a President Trek ____ ? Or even Trek on a business card? It kind of reminds me of my husbands first car (when we were still dating) the Tracker. Every child and person goes on a journey for life. Perhaps pick a name that has even greater meaning to you.

Where did you meet? Where was your first date? Your first real vacation together? Your favorite vacation spot? Your favorite places to go? Etc.

It is a little strange, but not too crazy as long as you don’t name him Star Trek or something. I would pick a common middle name if you use it. I also agree with the above that you could find another name that means journey as well.

I also agree with 2nd poster, I can’t see a President Trek...it won’t look great on a resume.

Neither love it or hate it. Could you spell it Treck or Trec to get a little away from Star Trek? I agree, if you use this fn, choose a common, traditional sounding middle name

I think it is absolutely awful, sorry. Isn’t that one of Sarah Palin’s kids? I have made so much fun of a couple of their names! No, maybe that was Trak. I can’t decide which is worse, sorry. Give your baby a name that will be taken seriously. GL!!

How about Tucker, nn Trek? I actually think Trek is cool.

Call him trek, at home for fun, or make it a middle name. How about Troy or Riker Ryker. Which series did you like the best?

Haha Em I was going to say the same thing. Trek could be the newest edition to the family to accompany Track, Trig, and Trip! Sorry, just had to say it, anyway, I agree that it doesn’t sound professional and there will be too many Trekkie comments. I say use it for a nn or middle name.
