James vs. too common for a first name vs. Not as common as some boy names
The name James is a favorite of mine...well it has been for years. When I was growing up it ranked like 7 in the top names but I only knew maybe 5 or 6 boys with the name when I was growing up. Now it is ranked 16 I think...so is it really that common with the younger generation? It seems like I hear the names Jacob and Aiden a lot more commonly where I live. Thanks
The Top Baby Name is...

James is great. I think it’s more popular as a middle name. It’s also grown from James to Jameson.
I adore the nickname Jamie, as well. Very cute.
James is sophisticated and classic. Go with it.

I don’t think it’s as popular as some. I think it’s probably used more as a mn. I like it, and other versions of it too. I like Jamon and Jamison. I don’t care for the nn Jamie though, at all. I like James and call him Jamon as a pet name.

Like others have said, I think it’s a popular mn, but not so popular as a fn. I don’t know any little James. There are none in my sons class or my daughters class or in any of there after school activities. I think it’s a very handsome name. gl!

It has recently gone from great classic in top five to overused (top two last year) where I am from. Depends on your area, if you are not aware of lots of people going with James, you should be ok with this fab name.

I don’t think James is all that popular. I love the nn Jamie, though.

I don’t think James is too popular as a first name. The thing about the rankings is that different spellings counts a different names, so they can be misleading.

Also love Jamison or Jameson which may be less common? You could do them with nn James if you like a longer name :)
