Willa vs. too close? vs. willow

ok i love the name Willa for a little girl but my friend(a close friend at school but who i rarely see now...lives 150miles from me) has a little girl called Willow? she knows im expecting etc as we e mail......do you think its too close to her name and i should pick another? or would you use it anyway? thanks

I don’t think you need to ask your friend if it is okay, she shouldn’t decide what you name your baby. However letting her know what you are planning would probably be nice.

oh, i disagree. if your friend would be hurt or uncomfortable with it, i wouldn’t use it. they are awfully close. you never know, she may think it’s neat!

i think i may e mail her with my list-few other girls names i like are Ayla, Indie etc so i may send them all and say i hope she dosent think willa is too close? thanks for your help...i do quite like Etta!

I like the idea of sending a list and including Willa. If you ask her directly if she minds and she does, then you’re sort of locked into NOT using it. On the other hand, if you ask & she loves it, then you’re sort of locked into using it.

You know, they do Sound similar, but imo Willa has a totally different vibe than Willow.

I’d never suggest Willa to someone who liked Willow-kwim?

It doesn’t sound like you see your friend that often, so it’s not as if the girls will be confused.

i think it’s too close and will look a little bit like you’re copying, i prefer Willow to Willa anyway, if you really have to use it then use it as the middle name, but if you ask her and she’s fine with it then go for it, what about
